i was wondering what everyone thought about the progression of naruto skillwise over the course of the timeskip and now.

My impression is that although he seems to have learned some stuff. Nothing really is showing at all.

I mean if you look at sakura. from the start her strength and her medic ability has been the focal point of her progression

as for sauske he seems to be the immortal badass in everything. i mean seriously they really show him to be that.

Then you look at naruto. and your left wondering.. ya he is better.. but is this really it? after however many years.. this is what he has done..

Maybe its not so bad by itself. but when you compare it to the progression of the others. DAMN he is kinda slow progressing.

Now dont hate this is not a rip on things thread. this is just a "your impression" so far thread.

You know, is it just me or did you post this because of my 'Why I hate Naruto thread' from a few hours back...? :notrust

Well, I could write a mini essay on this topic, but all I'm going to say is that he has improved immensely in all areas. He has better usage of his kage bunshins, stronger, faster, etc.

It was 2.5 years and he has done a lot in that time. No, he hasn't become as strong as a Sannin, but if you were to take a look at the bell test you can see how much he has improved. Moreover, do you think the Naruto (pre time skip) could do what this Naruto did to Deaidra? No. He has shown a great deal of improvement.

I'm not all caught up, but it was to my understanding that we haven't even see Sasuke fight :oh

And yes, Sakura has in fact become a lot stronger, but its not like she had anyway to go, but up.

Actually all Naruto really needs is a teacher that takes him serious, someone who doesn't waste his time reading perverted books, or look at women. Actually if I think about it, it's a wonder Naruto got this far with all these perverts and sad excuses for teachers. Also if you are refering to the anime, then the best of what Naruto has to show has yet to be revealed.
If you are refering to the manga, then Kinshi already gave him a rope to hang on to and pull himself up with.

well KN4 >>> anything i've seen. though i guess we cant fully merit that power to him. so apart from his use of kyuubi, he hasnt progressed all that much.

Well that is what i was getting at aswell.

There is alot of speculation that he is better. and things of that sort. but he really has not showed that he is better.

Lets take the belltest for example. He was able to move his clone in midair.. thats IT.. now people get all excited about that and think he has improved his clones immensly.

I dont see that his clones are stronger or better in any way.. in fact i dont even see a reference to them being better at anypoint in shippuden and i just rewatched the entire thing before i posted this topic.

The only thing that has been referenced is that he has gotten smarter at using them.

Im not saying naruto is weak. im saying that compared to the progress of his counterparts sauske and sakura he is very VERY slow

For example. Sakura can smash about a square acre of rock with her strength, she can also cure a seemingly uncureable poison..

sauske can us ms, and is feared by like everyone at this point. even without the manga you can tell he is a mega badass.. its just the general atmosphere the story gives him.

Naruto on the other hand has gotten a semi new rasengan that hasent really hit anything that matters. and he can move his clones in midair..

the power the the nine tails cannot be considered a power he has improved because he would not have bitchslapped sakura had it been improved.

i welcome counterpoints with valid evidence.

Seeing we're discussing the same subject in two posts, I'll just repeat my stance here:

So let's get this straight. Naruto has been out in the bushes for 3 years with everyone's favorite hermit and general P3wner Jiraiya. After 3 years of (supposedly) intense training, Naruto:

1. ... is still equally impatient and short-tempered, which has already almost cost him his head on several occasions.
2. ... still has no manners, he's still the same punk.
3. ... has only learned 1 (ONE) new technique (3 YEARS!!!), and that being nothing more than a bigger orb.
4. ... has lost rather than gained control over his Jinchuuriki-powers, going ape every now and then & endangering everybody around him in the process. (Should he have rather trained with Claymores perhaps? Nah, he just sucks...)
5. ... characterwise got 0% richer and still just keeps going about how he'll save Sasuke. One would imagine 3 years of meditation should at least place some nuance on this, but nooo.... Ssssasuke! Sssassssuke!!!! SASUKE! If I were Sasuke, I too would give him a serious wake-up call in the face! (Naruto is the reason we have restraining orders today)
6. ...

His enemies have gotten stronger, his friends have gotten stronger... Yet all Naruto has is slightly improved general techniques and other than that, he lets Kyuubi do all the work! And even better, when he's told he's strong enough without the Kyuubi-powers, he friggin' buys it too!!!

So tell me, have I the right to hate Naruto? Quite so if you ask me!

Please note I already didn't really like him in the first series, but I at least had some hopes for him. Now, even that is gone.

Lackluster to say the least all he's done is go even more kyuubi and and he had a bigger rasengan

we havent seen much from naruto, apart from him going kyuubi which is not his power. the whole series all we seen him is lose his temper and enter kyuubi mode. however considering the opponents naruto has face i can understand why he loses his temper so easily, orochimaru he believes has brainwashed sasuke and deidra he lost his temper becuase of gaara. until naruto stops relying on the kyuubi we will not see how much he has imporved.

naruto did improve his use of clone technique, but its not really different from pre-skip naruto. pre-skip naruto has his moments where he uses his clones wisely and the post skip naruto hasnt really improved that greatly compared to those moments.

but i'm guessing naruto shouldnt be as strong as sasuke as of right now since he's the main character. main characters should still have a lot to learn and come back for round 2.

He has improved in a lot of fields... He's stronger, he's got more skill with the Kage Bunshin, he made a greater Rasengan, and it looks like he's a slightly better tactician too. He still has a long way to go though... I think he will improve more.

Naruto is helpless and will be for a long time, he has had like 5 "power-up" trainings yet none of them really improved him.

I belive his training before the chunin exams gave him a bigger power up than the timeskip.

and people need to stop saying that his shadow clones have gotten stronger. they still take one hit and go poof and they still charge to there deaths.. unless you have some solid proof of how they have gotten stronger.

also.. oni rated my thread down and called me a plagiarists. thought it was chicken shit.. so i rated him down and told him to pissoff.

I was disappointed by Naruto's growth as well.

You guys forgot about the Genjutsu training he had, btw. :O I think by the next arc, we'll see a bit more what he's capable of.

He doesn't seem to have done much, he hasn't learn anything new really, just improved his current abilities.

I'm disappointed.

Jiraiya and Kakashi should have taken his training more seriously. Sakura has improved LOADS in 2.5 years and by the sounds of it, it looks like Sasuke is about to OWN. I feel sorry for Naruto; all he's done is made a bigger rasengan and bought himself a new outfit :apathy I'm sure he'll improve later on but I'm just annoyed he didn't get noticeably stronger. Sasuke always gets the bad-ass credit :notrust

Well, that's the way the stroy's gotta go I guess :sag ...

I dunno...the last Shippuden episode had him doing something pretty neat...

Spoiler:
His clones pulled off the Rasengan this time. Naruto was standing in the backgroud while it happened.

well, it's Naruto's story, so I guess best bet is for him to remain an underdog, and win without his fist/brain but his 'heart' :/

and if winning with his heart involves him yelping 'SASUKEEEE!!!!!!!!' 24/7 then, I guess the story is freakin' effective :)

lol I guess this is the start of these threads, and they probably wont stop any time soon. Pt 1 taught us that Kishi likes to make Naruto 80% fail, 20% luck and 100% heart. He has to wait until the very end to show half the talent he should be capable of (see VoTE). The only things thats changed is hes more like 60% fail, 20% skill and 20% luck. Is it better? yea sure

Is it enough? not even close lol

Naruto is fine where he's at.

Plus, he has yet to seriously solo against an enemy and give us a chance to see how good he can be. You can only imagine just who he'll evitably end up fighting. Just give it time because he still has a lot of growing to do.

Yeah... Deidara and Orochimaru aren't enemies he should be fighting seriously. Hell, he looked pathetic fighting Kabuto. :wink
