Speculation Yamato could still stay in Wano

This might be nothing but there's an interesting choice of words at the end of the chapter which Oda could have used to misdirect the reader.

Firstly Yamato is still in the Flower Capital rather than with the SH gang at the port who are about to leave.

Kinemon asks whether she's on the roof as usual.

Yamato replies: "Yes!! I've made up my mind" then she says "Let's go to Luffy and the others!" which is including with Kinemon and Momo rather than saying something along the lines of "I'm going to leave/sail with Luffy and the others"

The last part is her saying she'll live like Kozuki Oden. Now we know Oden did live as a pirate for many years and travelled around the world, so the obvious conclusion is that Yamato will also leave and travel like he did, however it's still open ended as to what that actually means and so there's enough room for Oda to surprise us with Yamato's decision.

When Oden left Wano to sail around as a pirate, we know that's right when Orochi and Kaidou moved in and took over. It's not entirely crazy for Yamato to change her mind.

On the other hand, Momo really expressed his desire for Yamato to finally have her freedom.

I have things narrowed down to two options:
(1) Momo will ask Luffy to let Yamato board the ship as a minarai (cabin boy) so she can document the journey, and this will ultimately give Momo the info he needs to comfortably open the borders
or
(2) Oda will pull a twist here, and Yamato will elect to stay until the borders are opened, and then she'll join Luffy/etc

Either way, I could see Yamato being the star of the sequel once OP is done with.

She could, i hope not. It would.mean Oda has just been wasting time over and over with the topic.

Yeah, especially after her wanting to leave and see the world was a massive point of her characterisation.

Also after Momo literally shot down the excuse for her to stay and protect Wano by not allowing her to fight, talking about her sendoff and wanting to take a stand and show they can protect themselves.

It'd be massively wasteful to do that if Oda would then have her turn around and say she's gonna stay in Wano just two to three chapters later.

Really hope not, as that would be so far into the end game, she'd basically not be part of the crew almost at all at that point.

Well, that doesn't sound much different than how it's going to be anyway. :/

Oda has expressed the desire to end things a lot sooner than we're generally comfortable with, and with how many plot points he has to get to, it's honestly hard to imagine how he could logistically add Yamato development on top of it all.

It's overall difficult to really predict how Oda is going to smooth all this over.

I think it was a pretty clear narrative decision when Momo called off Yamato but allowed the others to fight Green Bull.

Remember when Oden clung to that rope on the back of Whitebeard’s ship? That certainly won’t happen, since Luffy isn’t that kind of guy and Yamato has a DF. But the idea that Yamato is at the capital and they’re at the port sets up a similar “mad dash to catch the ship before it sets sail” situation for Yamato.

I'm hoping it's a misdirect as well.

They won't shut up about joining so much so that I'd like to believe that something at least a little interesting will happen to play with our expectations, cuz at this rate the "new member" moment is gunna feel like a wet fart.

Don't think too much.
She'll join.

Personally a meh for me as well.

In act 1;the trip from Kuri to Udon was like 2 days.

Nowadays characters travel from the flower capital to Udon in mere seconds/mins

I actually came up with a new meme based on the suspicious wording as well

I think there's a small possibility that what ends up happening is Yamato joins Kid or Law instead of Luffy.

People really still losing sleep over Yamato joining huh?

Naturally.

There's been no foreshadowing of the character for 25 years, which is very un-Oda-like. They have no role on the crew, which every other SH was originally designed with back in the 90's. They will clearly become A/Y level, which is extreme. And there's not much time left in the series to even develop her.

I don't trust anybody who just accepts all this, and has no questions about how it will work. I'm incredibly fascinated by the whole development because it doesn't seem logistically possible.

Nope Yamato is joining and she is joining at the exact point Oden was,1 year before the end of the Pirate king's journey.

I think a timeskip is coming soon.

You really need foreshadowing when no other SH beside Jinbei had it? & What is Zoro's role? Luffy is already practically Yonko level and will likely surpass Roger while Zoro will likely be at least be A/Y level too. You're overthinking the "logistics", this is a pirate crew that recruits people who are useful, likeable (to most) and inherently good. All of which Yamato is. Also there's still significant time to develop her with a lot of things still on the horizon. Oda likely has something planned

Your overthinking it. When WB Pirates left port in Wano, Oden wasn’t aboard the ship yet and had to hang onto it; the same thing will happen with Yamato

Before Oda even started One Piece, back in the mid 90s's, he had early designs for all of the Strawhats pre-made, and in parenthesis was their listed role. There was a skeleton man with "Musician" written, and a large fishman with "Helmsman" written. Zoro has "combatant" written down for him, by the way. In fact, in these original sketches, Oda doesn't even have their names listed, which means he came up with their roles first.
The only role Yamato could possibly have at this point is "Minarai" (Cabin boy).

So, when I suggest a character should have a role, I'm not "overthinking," I'm just thinking.

Whether she joins or not I don't really care nor does it matter much to me or some. This "will she won't she" has gotten tedious and somewhat irritating.

Mind you her addition would very much be a "the rich get richer" scenario for the SHs. They don't really need her in all honesty, and she's more of a luxury that adds to their overall combat ability as a crew. On one hand, you can argue she's the difference maker that can put them over the top in any Yonko VS Yonko crew conflict. At the same time, she doesn't really bring anything invaluable to the table like the other members do in terms of her role or profession; though I suppose she's military might that will prove useful with a war on the horizon.

But if she really is Oden then she most likely joins..

It wont play out that way simply because Yamato has a devil fruit while Oden did not and it wouldnt be in Luffys personality to deliberately do that to her anyway.

I read it completely different the first time, but looks like you're right. A lot of people might be mad next week lol. It makes sense for her to stay since Momo made such a big deal about no outsiders fighting and GreenBull making a big deal about no one strong enough to stop him was there.

Then again he says he want's to live like Oden, which means abandoning his family and country to go sail the world.

She is just going to copy Oden the same way Oden joined Newgates crew but in stead of swimming/ holding onto that chain she will be drowning and the SH crew will be forced to pick her up.
