Why Itachi didn't live up to his hype

Put aside the fanboyism. Itachi didn't live up to his hype, or at least the fan's hype in this forum.

Itachi

1. Itachi showed that all he has IS his MS. What we seen from him all out, was 2/3 of what we seen in part 1. However, contrary to part 1, his techniques have been revealed to be mediocre .

- Itachi's Tsukiyomi got countered by will power. Right after that, he suffered eye sight damages and got hurt by a kunai and failure to utilize his sharingan to see the chidori implanted on the shuriken.

- Amaterasu, on what was claimed to be hotter than the sun, and being able to incinerate anything that reflects on Itachi's eyes revealed that it was just a stronger-than-normal katon jutsu. It still moves like a fire and needs to engulf the opponent before it burns it. Sasuke had enough time to move away before he got hit and eventually got countered by a technique you can learn from the academy.

- Itachi's only upperhand in this battle was susanoo-o. Yet another technique that was hyped for a week. Proved to be a last resort technique which highly implies that it carries risks for the user. Anyone with double digit IQ can realize that something of that size is a problem and should be avoided. Nice jutsu indeed

2. No endurance whatsoever. Whatever happened to ninjas being able to dodge something coming from behind without seeing it? An old Sandaime who had a kusanagi pierced through his chest managed to do more than Itachi without his eye sight

Sorry but his was as bad as Asuma's. Haku, Zabuza, Sandaime, and Deidara had better deaths than his and at least Deidara went out with a bang. Itachi just dies like that, sorry fans but even I, whos not a fan, still am disappointed at Itachi's performance

No, it got countered by a Sharingan.

This didn't live up to the hype for sure. But I'm wary of saying that Sasuke countered Amaterasu with Snake Bunshin. You'll notice that even after escaping, he still lost his wing. If Itachi had snagged his arm instead, he might not have been able to regenerate that either, and been left completely useless.

Also regular kawarimi (the academy version) wouldn't have cut it for Sasuke. The fire had already caught him. Itachi's comment about the Oral Rebirth being "harder to detect" makes it sound like he would have been able to track Sasuke if he attempted a regular kawarimi.

I suppose the big deal about Susanoo is its invincible shield. The sword is a one-hit-KO as well (except when it comes to Orochimaru for some reason), but like you said people should try to avoid getting stabbed just on a matter of principle.
