Why is Society Not Taking Privacy Seriously?

Technology is always advancing, especially regarding the ability to communicate with people electronically or conduct transactions online, but laws to regulate technology are far slower to be exacted than the rate at which technology is advancing, especially regarding privacy, since not enough people are taking privacy seriously, in my mind. Practically any electronic device can monitor people, and companies collect massive amounts of information on people and then sell that information for profit, which I believe is terrible, since a person should be the one who has ultimate authority over their data and how it is used.

Therefore, I definitely believe that society needs to start taking privacy more seriously and implement laws to keep users’ information private and away from those who seek to sell it, as well as imposing strict limitations on how surveillance can be implemented in public and what can be done with the information obtained via that surveillance. Does anyone else here agree with me, I hope?

If you need help with construction for tunnels into a secret sex dungeon, without the local authorities or public finding out I know a guy. He is very discreet and professional. He has over 30 years in the business of secret sex dungeon construction worked for the likes of Prince Andrew, Epstein, Bill Gates, Harvey Weinstein, Cosby, Jackson, R. Kelly you name it.

Just hit me up with a dm if you're interested. Doesn't come cheap though.

I bought a new phone number (sim card) went 1-2 yrs no spams.

My company told me to open new bank (govt owned bank) account, gave that number into bank system. Next day spam ads, calls etc. like wtf bank, they sold my phone number just like that. Tho it prolly some dude who work for them but still very un profesional

thats why people often go to the 2 fones route, 1 for personal and 1 for work/business. the personal phone imo has to be strictly family if you want it to be permanently fuss free, accessing it to friends or even sometimes extended families exposes you back to the risk.

Privacy is relative.

It’s also a recent invention.

People traditionally lived together in large single-room houses and the norm was that everyone knew about everything going on in the household.

It wasn’t until people started building larger houses with multiple rooms that people developed a concept privacy. Instead of having sex in the same room your parents were sleeping in, for example, you finally had a place of your own to do your business.

That’s not to say we should go back to any of that, but when discussing acceptable levels of privacy, it’s important to be aware how wide that window is.

This is broadly true for any cultural norm and value we enjoy in the modern world: it likely wasn’t the norm for most of history, and by extension, most people who have ever lived. It might also not be the norm everywhere today. While the world is mostly on the same page that people should have a degree of privacy and separation from others, there are still many communal societies which much looser interpretations of what privacy means.

But to address your question directly, the main concern with Internet privacy is that someone might use the information your provide against you, such as if you have interest you don’t want others to know about. That includes the government misusing what it learns about you, such as tracking your purchases and following you 24/7 1984-style.

I’d say that’s a slightly separate issue than how much privacy somebody should have and how seriously we should take privacy.

There are plenty of alternative internet services that offer decent privacy, so if you would like more control over your data you can simply use them instead of the more mainstream ones (i.e instead of google search, gmail, windows, etc).

So in reality society does care, since the existence of many businesses and services of that type proves that the demand is there.

I personally do that and use a more privacy conscious email provider than gmail, use another search engine and browser than Google's, and have a linux distro on my pc (tho also windows in smaller partition).

This thread makes me giggle considering ddj was on a popular reality show with his full ass name and offering a window into his life

It's highly unlikely that some random company or business will leak your private data purposefully and the consequences of that will hit you in the face.

What's more likely to happen regarding your privacy is that some random (or even someone you know) can spread rumours or bring up bad accusations about you online and you almost never get out of a situation like that scot free (unless you fight tooth and nail for your sanity and life).

Look what happened to Jonathan Majors and Kyle Rittenhouse 😮

That is part of what is wrong with this world; everyone is seeking to make a profit, and so obsessed with doing so that they do not see the damage that they are doing to society and the world.

I agree, to be honest. While wanting to make a profit is rational, it should ideally not be our first priority or obsession. That it defines our economic system doesn't mean it should define our purpose as human beings, individual or collective. There's more to a society than the economic system, at any rate.

Do you seriously think that I revealed every detail of my life on that series, or that I reveal every detail of my life on my Instagram account?
comrade, if privacy was about covering your privates, featuring on a hit netflix reality show is basically shooting softcore porn at this point.

"well they ain't seen my nutsacks yet!!"

but still.. :oldshrug

I am very glad to know that you share my feelings on this matter.
