Orihime is the heroine, Rukia spends way too little time on the sidelines being useless and obsessing over the hero to be the heroine. Orihime is the true heroine of Bleach, just like Naruto is the true heroine of Naruto.

In MY Bleach, Neliel is the heroine :LOS

Edit

But seriously. It not easily to determine. Normally I'd have to go with Rukia because she is kind of the one who made Ichigo the shinigami and she is more of a fighter, but Orihime's role grew to be more significant as well, the way she fights and handles situation is clearly different from Rukia's but that doesn't make her less important a character or less of a heroine.

Both she and Rukia have had difficulties in their pasts and both are still struggling with their own worries, their own problems, selfish emotions and so on. Be it Hime's crush on Ichigo which she can't admit or Rukia not being certain if she sees Ichigo as a person she likes or if she's just still seeing him as a Kaien-copy, it's both the same and both equally worthy and important for the characters and storylines.

Nell would have been an awesome heroine, she was just so graceful. :noworry

I think I know why people got tired of Byakun's Hitsu spamming. :sag

Neliel is indeed a fine character. Not only has she class and style, is strong, brave, caring and loyal, she also showed complicated emotions, humor and a somewhat perverted side (at least as a child lol). I liked her interaction with Noitra in the past and present, the stuff that's going on between them, both expressed with words and actions would give any psychologist a field day with them and is material for great analyzations for why what Neliel says contradicts what she does. In a sense, this is also a selfish dark side to her personality as she obviously can't bring herself to kill the man (Noitra) she so despises for everything he has done.

There is much more in the game than just pitty and disgust, a certain vibe of attraction is clearly noticable. I still hope Kubo can somehow explore that later on and give Neliel a more important role in general. She would make a good heroine.

Neither.

This is Orihime: Kurosaki-kun! Are you alright Kurosaki-kun?! I'm going to save you Kurosaki-kun! Hang in there Kurosaki-kun! Don't die Kurosaki-kun! KUROSAKI-KUUUUN! :cry

This is Rukia: Kaien-dono! It can't be him, but it really is Kaien-dono! It's all my fault! No, he isn't Kaien-dono! I'm so sorry Kaien-dono! I let you die Kaien-dono! KAIEN-DONOOOO! :cry

Rukia was introduced first, and had more of a relationship with Ichigo in season one. Case closed.

The heroine of Bleach is definitely Tatsuki.

Orihime is the heroine, Rukia spends way too little time on the sidelines being useless and obsessing over the hero to be the heroine. Orihime is the true heroine of Bleach, just like Naruto is the true heroine of Naruto.

I'm going have to disagree with you on that second part, Marsala. Just think about it for a moment. Sasuke never lets go of a grudge? Check. Sasuke is all about the revenge on some guy? Check. Yes, Sasuke is most definitely the heroine of Naruto.

Neither are, as they both have an equal amount of importance to the story and to the main hero himself. If it werent for Rukia, Ichigo wouldnt be a shinigami. If it werent for Orihime, Ichigo would be...well, dead. :oh

kubo tried to push tittyhime onto us as the main heroine, but the readers dont want her, as evidenced by the latest popularity poll.

Rukia was the heroine at the begin of the series, but as time progressed, Hime became the heroine:amuse

Depends. I'd say Rukia early on when until she got 'arrested' and nearly put to death. Orihime... eh I can't really think of a time when she was. She's good for support, but I don't think she could straight up be a heroine. Personally I'd like to think of Yoruichi and Nell as a bit more heroic than both.

I still think it's Rukia. Although, orihime was the focus for this arc. we can tell for sure with the developments in the next arc and how that goes. maybe this time it will shift to tatsuki who knows?

rukia is the one doing the saving now, orihime: getting saved

the more active female is the main heroine

although orihime is undoubtedly a more important character longer term

Thanks to that awesome cool person who got Ezxx to come clean up the thread, I appreciate it a lot. *smooches* :kloff :kloff

As for the topic at hand:

Spoiler: long heroine argument
Rukia was definitely the heroine up till 181. That is irrefutable, well unless you don't think KT has heroines, but let's just abandon that constraint for now. After 181 is where it gets a bit muddled up, but I still think that Rukia ends up retaining her heroine status. :yell

Anyway, I definitely have a hard time disliking female characters. I liked Fllay Allstar from Gundam Seed when everyone thought she was a complete manipulative bitch, and she was initially, but she grew out of that and turned into a much more sympathetic character. I liked Shirley from Code Geass, despite everyone thinking she's a carbon copy of Orihime. I even liked Mitsuki from KGnE, and that's a hard character to understand and empathize with. But somehow, KT's portrayal of Orihime just makes me so frustrated and annoyed. I only dislike one other female manga/anime character so strongly, and that's Lacus Clyne, but it's mostly because she's Kira's plot hax. But even Lacus is a much stronger character than Orihime when I think about it, cause she can actually accomplish things.

I just can't see anything deep in KT's portrayal of Orihime as to define her as a heroine, and I believe if we compare her to Rukia she falls extremely short. Yes, Orihime's role did increase significantly in terms of panel time, but she hasn't shown herself to be worthy of heroine status.

And this is just textual analysis, not including the numerous JUMP covers with Rukia, color spreads, merchandising, the SOULs and VIBEs covers referring to Ichigo as the Sun and Rukia as the moon, and of course popularity polls.

If Rukia was considered the heroine of the SS arc, then Orihime should "technically" be considered as the heroine of the HM arc. But she hasn't done anything remarkable as for her to stand out against Rukia at any point of time, and if KT designed to switch heroines, he knows Orihime would have to compete with all that time dedicated to Rukia's development as a character.

But, even after 70 + chapters, I still can't see anything defining Orihime as a character growing stronger. She's been inconsistent and all over the place and spent the last 30 chapters just shouting "Kurosaki-kun". Furthermore, she kind of forgot about her idea to reject the hougyoku and choose to stay behind willingly. I thought she was supposed to show amazing resolve concerning that, but we didn't hear any sort of protest from her once when Ichigo was like "let's get out of here" right before the Nnoi attack. After the Kenpachi fight she also acquiesced to go home. - I don't blame her for wanting to go home, but if that was supposed to be important, she missed her chance to be heroic and choose her own path. Instead she ended up being forcibly brought back by Stark. :notrust

She sat on the sidelines and ended up being used a sexual joke with Grimmjow dragging her, bound, chained, and gagged. She got NNoi's fingers put into her mouth. Aizen was almost seducing her. Orihime barely had any dignity in her captivity.

She listened to everything "Kurosaki-kun" said, even healing Grimmjow so that Ichigo could feed his ego in having beaten Grimmjow Jeagerjaques at full strength. She was able to have the courage to protest against Grimmjow when he told her to heal Ichigo so that he could fight him, but not the courage to refuse Ichigo's stupidity. :notrust

And as for showing actual emotional support to Ichigo, she got scared of the vaizard mask and made him feel insecure, and then she lamely cheered him on, everyone agrees on that. What did she say "I don't care if you don't win, just don't get hurt"? Either way it was kind of irrational since if he didn't win, he would die right? :huh She did heal him and save him from dying, but yeah so did Hanatarou after the Renji fight and Yoruichi after the Kenpachi fight.

Rukia's performance in the HM arc was definitely more heroic despite limited panel time, and despite her being significantly underutilized, aka being left to bleed on the floor for almost 40 chapters. :notrust She was the only non-captain to kill an espada. :noworry And she emphasized several times how much she wanted to save Orihime, even crawling on the floor till she collapsed. :cry

Not to mention she was extremely focused on Orihime almost throughout the entire arc, with even the last chapter.

Tbh, if we're to believe Aizen that Orihime's purpose lay in being bait, then I think a lot of things make sense with her characterization and she can become decentralized.

So yeah, Rukia for life! For life! :yell

I think Neliel is my second favorite female character in Bleach because I just loved KT's development of her through the flashbacks. She came out as compassionate, empathetic, courageous, and noble. She also came across as so dignified and you could understand why Nnoi was always striving to be at her level.

Actually, even in her chibi form, she seemed more emotionally mature than Orihime at times, having to encourage her to cheer for Ichigo.

I loved the NnoiNell interaction and thought that that was one of the more heartbreaking moments in the arc, when he's about to die and chibi Nell wakes up from her state of unconsciousness to say his name. I remember a lot of people were definitely moved by that moment.

Theirs was definitely a dysfunctional relationship but still touching.

Going to have to say Rukia on this. Once Hime gets rescued she will be put on the sidelines again if Kubo doesn't explore her power more.
