I think we need to keep a thread like this where people can ask what the etiquette in a certain situation is.

Alright, here's the story. There's this girl who I've known since I was probably fifteen years old. She dated my best friend for three years. Now most of you have probably come across threads here where someone wanted to date a friends ex, this is not the case here.

See this friend, the girl, she's married now to a guy who's over seas in Iraq. We've been kind of close since she and my friend broke up because I don't have any attraction to her, probably due to something or other. But it means I'm extra comfortable around her and can do whatever I please without worry. Its great.

Now here is the deal: The girl here has a little sister, I've known her for years too, she was probably thirteen or so when I met her. But she's nineteen now, and she's a knock out, really cute. Beautiful in fact. Very intelligent, a little nerdy. How I like them.

Problem is I am kind of scared to try and chase after a friends little sister when they are the same sex because there's no telling how a woman will react to that sort of thing. She's always talking about how I am a good guy but then I know how fast that can turn around when you are talking about family.

So how can I talk to this friend and tell her I have a little bit of a crush on her sister, I went out with them tonight and I must have seemed so awkward, I was really off and nervous around the younger sister because of the whole attractive thing. I'm not sure what to say in this sort of case.
 
Next time you hang out with her, do your normal thing, then, just as you're leaving, say, "By the way, I wanna hook up with your sister". And get out of there.
 
Well, first off find out if the sister is interested in you, if she is and this thing has a high possibility of working out, you should approach your friend and let her know how it is. I don’t know, I feel it’d be silly to let your friend know you have a crush on her little sister (potentially shaking up the friendship) if you aren’t sure of whether your feelings are reciprocated or not- why run that kind of risk, is what I’m saying. It’s a tough decision to make though- good luck :amuse
 
I would arrange a meeting between the three of you and see if there is any chemistry between you and the little sister. Are you a lot older than her? If the age difference isnt huge then it is perfectly normal for you to be attracted to her.

After your meeting, chances are that the little sister will tell the big sister if she was interested in you. Find some time to talk about your meeting with the big sister and see if she mentions anything.

If I were the big sister I would have no problem with it as long as you aren't a whole lot older than the little sister.

A good thread idea. I have a question! :wtf

At work they recently implemented a new 8 hour overtime policy. Basically I have to work 8 hours of overtime a week, which is bullshit.

Should I just simply not do the overtime, or tell my boss to fuck a goat first?

I wish I could get that kind of overtime, if we get caught going over too much, we get fired. I would do it, but is this going to become a permanent thing?

Okay, a little more background. I have hung out with this girl, the little sister alone. We've been to movies together alone, played video games for hours alone, talked on the phone for hours and stuff like that. Most of it without her older sister knowing. I did this because her older sister is kind of neurotic and she has a tendency to throw a fit.

Her little sister is pretty calm and stable.

Oh by the way, the younger sister is about nineteen, I'm twenty two. But mentally she's about twenty five.
 
It's for the next two weeks. What kind of sick bastards like overtime?

Here's another question:

What's the etiquette on telling a guy on a forum you hardly know he's a sick bastard for liking overtime?

ah...that complicates things just a tad. Ok well the age difference is fine IMO. I think you should do some sekrit investigting and use mutual friends to find out if the older sister would be against the two of you having a relationship. A lot of the time when I have problems like this I just have my friends talk to them without revealing any details. If you do this, make sure you pick a friend with tact, however.

A friend with tact, that would be Matt most defintely. He's probably the only mutual friend she and I have in common anymore. Most of our friends have abandoned both of us or one of us. And then there's her ex who she won't talk to because he broke her heart, and he's like my best friend.

The thing is that I watched this girl go from a little braces wearing nerdy band geek girl to...well you should see her.

Well I liked it because I used to get almost four hundred bucks a week.

lol, If you like her that much I don't see where you can go wrong honestly. You sound like a really nice, decent guy. The older sister should be happy that her little sister is liked by a guy she approves of. That's how I would look at it.

I guess I would just test the waters, you know? Drop a few hints here and there, give it some time and see what you get out of it. Hopefully they aren't going anywhere so maybe your situation will find an answer for you.

BTW I just looked at your sig and the fact that you listen to straylight run makes you, like, the perfect guy. This girl is lucky :thumbs

Thanks, I've liked Straylight Run since their first CD actually and I was happy when they made the second. Now my friend knows that I'm still a virgin, knows that I wouldn't do anything to hurt her sister's feelings or any thing like that.

So I would be a safe bet for her sister. In this situation I'm probably the least harmful possibility for a girl like this who's never dated.

That's what I was thinking. If the older sister is that protective of her then she should count you as a blessing. You are obviously a good match.

Ah thanks, I will do that.

Something is going to have to happen soon though, I don't want to wait too long for this.
 
Here's a skeptics point of view.

I can see a lot of things that could go wrong, if I'm answering honestly. First you already mentioned that the older sister is neurotic, and it's to the point that when you hang out with her younger sister, talking to her on the phone, etc, you do it in secret. If you can't even hang out with her legitimately with her sister knowing, then escalating the relationship seems a moot point.

Second the older sister sees you as safe, or the friend type, and it seems like the younger sister might be falling into the same categories. Unless you've been flirting with each other all along (or at least since you've become older), the sudden switch to "hey. let's go out." might scare a girl. In that case you risk not only alienating her but her sister also, who thinks you are safe b/c you are not after her little sister. Or worse they could say thanks, lets stay friends. In that case you have to walk around with the knowledge that you "confessed" to this girl, and it will only be awkward for you. That will just make you feel bad.

Third, I know this sounds cliche, but being the chaser sucks. It's not worth it unless you're thinking about marriage or you've just met that week and haven't fallen into one of her categories. But since you have history, and you're thinking about going against said history, its like preparing yourself to get emotionally curb stomped. So I propose getting over her by getting under some1 else. (again a cliche, but one that works) She might be fine and all, but its like a convenient fine. Proximity is a blessing and a curse in this situation that might blow up in your face and mess up your friendship. So I say find someone else, hell find two.


@CMX, If it's only for two weeks, then shut the hell up and make that money. If it''s for longer than that, tell your boss that you have too much going on outside of work and he's obligated to tell you the change of schedule in advance. Then don't show up.
 
I would go for it, sounds like something that could last. it seems like the younger sister likes you. your lucky I wish I had attractive friends
 
I dont see why she'll take it badly. she's known you for ages. you claim they regard you highly. so as long as your intentions are pure, i dont see the problem.
