What the hell is Sasuke's character supposed to be portrayed as?

A rival, anti hero, anti villain, a byronic hero? All these opinions and objections about Sasuke's portrayal in this manga aimed for little children is very biased. For some reason, people seem to forget what Sasuke's character originally was, and some how it stems hatred for the character that he's being written to win because of his portryal as a arrogant rival type who doesn't get his just desserts. So tell me, what is Sasuke supposed to act like, Sasuke has a passive/agressive attitude now, and doesn't flay his supierority in peoples faces like he did in part one, but the problem to some fans he acts too flat and stale but it shows how much he matures and handles things. But if his character can't be this way to some fans as it offends them, what the hell is he supposed to be then? Humble? Nice? Naruto?

I guess after Sasuke killed Itachi he's next victim is Madara. Because, first of all he's the one that made Itachi and helped him kill the clan. Second, when Naruto learned about his father and the nine-tailed fox. He might go for the Madara too. This might get back Sasuke and Naruto's friendship. Together, they'll kill Madara. :)
That's what I think. ;)

sasuke is the obsessed avenger. he's a cliche. i don't see why you're
having such a hard time identifying him from a literary standpoint. it's just
another tale of good guy poisoned with revenge.

Sasuke's been a tired and uninteresting character for a long time now. I, too, can't quite figure out how people can be sympathetic or relate with him on any level. He may as well be a life-size piece of cardboard with his name scrawled on it's face.

I can say the same about the characters in your sig, or any character you like with a straight face. But that would be prejudice. Human Beings are jealous of those who are gifted and special, but they also can be blind to the truth that in a sense they don't understand it fully themselves. It's a escape towards a factor they are too emotionally weak to confront and accept. The reason you find Sasuke uninteresting is............................he's the perfect character in flaws, strengths and understanding of human confrontation. He might as well be the main character since he's accepted his own destiny, while Naruto still lingers in the past trying to build himself to his own confusion.

I relate to him because he's responsible and level headed towards the point he doesn't give a damn about the repercussions and is willing to die for his ambitons and ideals. He's not only a hero, he's human.

Because it seems to be lost on so many people, in the ninja-era type of Japanese culture that is in many respects that seen in Naruto, what Sasuke seeks is most closely approximated as the term vengeance, not revenge.

The difference being that vengeance is the right and responsibility of those whose family honor has been stained. In other words, Sasuke must seek vengeance for the honor of his clan, not for any personal need or desire. This is the same reason he must do this alone--restoring family honor, even through vengeance, is the duty of the oldest living son (in this case, Itachi doesn't qualify because he's the one who dishonored the family and is therefore disowned), a burden and requirement place upon his shoulders.

Revenge is more often used to describe an action taken as a personal vendetta, eye for an eye punishment of someone who has committed a sin against oneself or that which you love. There's nothing stating both terms can't apply to Sasuke, but at this point in the story, his admission that he knows killing Itachi won't fix anything and that it will not make him happy, it seems safe to logically conclude that it isn't personal pleasure, benefit, or revenge that Sasuke seeks to kill Itachi to receive, but instead the restoration (or at least the salvation) of his clan's honor.

the problem people have with current sasuke is that he gets away with doing everything immoral, and yet seems perfect in every way and always wins his fights, everyone loves him, etc etc. its just annoying and stupid and ruins kishitmoto's entire theme for the story

I'm not talking about people liking him ir disliking him, I'm trying to figure out what kind of character people want Sasuke too be?

No. Your hidden agenda is always speculating why we don't all love Sasuke. Or so you have come across in many threads.

As for what character we WANT him to be, that hardly matters because he is what he is.
I don't mind him being an anti-hero but I just find his character lacking and bland. There's a certain absence of true internal and external struggle on his part. And considering this tale of murder and revenge he could have been a lot more interesting than he is. However, he has been made overly perfect to the point were most can't relate to him on any human level. Even his tragic past and brooding tendency further serve his Gary Stu image. Part Two Sasuke sounds like he was written by a doughy-eyed fangirl. This is of course just how I see it.

it is paradoxical to wonder what kind of character we want a certain defined character to be. if sasuke was different he wouldnt be sasuke

amen, i too have stated that part 2 Sasuke is a mere Mary Sue character. For which real struggle, flaws, or repercussions dont seem to apply.

he is still the good ""leaf ninja"". His betrayal, obsession with revenge at all costs, and time with oro didnt really corrupt him or darken him. (to bad because it would have made him interesting)

With Oro gone easily without any trouble, making a deal with the devil didnt come at negative consequences at all.

His betrayal didnt really matter to others as well. konoha is hellbent on forgiving him and bringing him back. Where is the conflict there? Perhaps if Chouji died like he should have, during the rescue arc. The betrayal would have had negative consequences.

He is the ""more special"" character that everyone seems impressed or obsessed by.

the brooding bishie who almost never loses his cool.

He also annoys me because of his arrogance. Though as far as Kishi's concerned thats not even a flaw, because he never gets any negative effect from that attitude.
