the sword of totsuka and susanoo

(forgive me if i spelled it wrong)
orochimaru said that he was searching it for a long time.Now that does seems to imply that that sword is something that the susano aquired,rather than being ceated with the susano.

so where was it before itachi activated MS.
And where will it be after after itachi dies(he might be dead already)?
Any bright idea?
