SpaceTime jutsu seems to have a class of it's own seperate from Fire, Water, Earth, Lightning and Wind. Maybe it is the 6th element and would explain why only high lvl nins can perform them.
We know Minato created Hiraishin and maybe the reason why he shot up to greatness so fast, was by learning SpaceTime jutsu at a young age.
I think we have only scratched the surface of SpaceTime jutsu because so little is known about it but Pein was said to possess all 6 elements, which may give us more insight into this unknown 6th.
I have a feeling that because Naruto being the chosen child and the son of Minato, he will need to reach a completely new level to defeat Pain. Him attaining and mastering SpaceTime jutsus and or the 6th element using the Key may just be enough to make him high level.
