Some misfits in the world want regulated internet.

So it seems that some assholes think that regulating AND editing content on Youtube and Wikipedia would be a good idea. To save people from misinformation and rather rely on a group of elite who controlls the media presented to you on "user-generated" websites and information. I say up theirs and the internet should remain accessible to anyone and we dont need protection from misinformation. If your stupid enough to only rely on one site for your resurces then you deserve it. The jist of the truth is embedded in user generated content and they know that. Im sure if this "editing of information" is in effect, in the future we will be victims of major censorship to what we have to say.

There are only a handful of things you can do that make you free in this world, and how you want to use the internet should be one of those things.

Power to the PEOPLE!

When on the internet, people are prepared for some misinformation. I don't think it's necessary for it to be done for them.

:laugh I laugh at this idea because here is how i see it. Kids, i guess its to prevent kids from seeing explicit things, will learn these stuff anyways, changing Youtube and the internet aint going to do any. :amuse

Also, you have to be a fool to believe in things which are clearly misinformation. :amuse

To OP: What are you talking about? Did you even read the article? It has nothing to do with regulating either of those sites. It mentions some examples regarding those sites, but nothing about regulation.

They're talking about the creation of more trustworthy sites in which the material has been reviewed and deemed accurate.

Truthworthy yes but they are against Youtube and Wikipedia probably because of their popularity as being user generated. Trust me they will get to YouTube and Wikipedia....

Government censorship is impossible for something that they don't even have any remote control over. No one owns the Internet...yet anyway.

Eh, what can you expect? There really is quite a large degree of freedom on sites such as these, with the opportunity for misinformation popping up on many occasions.

An experts opinion is just that, an opinion. It's not always going to be right. This seems more like an effort to crush the enterprising individual in favor of established bodies. In other words, make the internet just like the real world. On the internet a poor man's thoughts can have just as much weight as rich man's. On the internet people are pretty much equal. Many at the top of real society naturally don't like this, because this internet weight is beginning to affect real life social status. Kings of the internet are ascending in real life standing on top of their internet fame brushing aside those who fought for their positions with traditional media. The internet is THE tool that uproots and throws aside practically every old socio-cultural convention. Perhaps an exaggeration, but you understand that it's beginning to lift those who were supposed to stay underfoot.

^ Exactly. On the internet people have more of a voice than participating in something corrupt as voting for a president/ prime minister.

Creating more trustworthy sites?

>.<'' When you are sharing information on the internet, i.e., accessible by the ENTIRE world, you should realize that people are bound to put up things that are not true. Regulating internet for childrens' regard isn't fair either, because it's not the government's job to teach children good and bad, what is appropriate and what is not.

You can't put LIMITS on the LIMITLESS: The internet is LIMITLESS. People can post anything, create anything, show anything they please. We've been granted free reign; people won't let it be taken away.

UGH, censorship is such CRAP.

Well said.

My friends and comrades such as the Amazing Atheist are already being censored on Youtube, and on Myspace...apparently, you're allowed to have any opinion there - as long as it's right wing religious and stupid.

the internet is not something that should be controlled. fuck these idiots are starting to piss me off.
