The best shinobi of this generation and the only one worth of the Hokage title is, ladies and gentlemen, Shikamaru!
 
mmm... he sure has the potential to be the best, but if you are as lazy as Shikamaru is, then there is no way you will be.
 
He's not just smart, he's got the best shinobi skills too.
His use of shuriken, kunais, strings, tags etc makes even the Uchihas look pitiful.
 
Big fan of the shika!!! I would love to see him a as general overlooking a huge ninja battle(such as pain's rain village vs naruto and konoha) and he relates the battle to the game he played with asuma! barking out orders ! good times all right!!

Because he's lazy! That's the only reason why he won't make it to Hokage altho he is the most suited by far. Think you Neji could have done better than Shikamaru against Hidan & Kakuzu? Neji was fodderized by a 30% clone of Kisame, while Shikamaru single handedly killed Hidan + 1 Kakuzu heart.

If his own laziness holds him back from being the greatest, then he isn't the greatest.

The lazy excuse really doesn't work anymore. In fact, after the Rescue Sasuke arc it stopped working. Kisame has always been said to have monsterous chakra. And without Kakashi, Kakuzu would have never lost that one heart. Plus outsmarting Hidan isn't very hard. He even said how stupid he was.
 
imagine shikamaru being hyperactive, then he would be a true beast. Or imagine him being evil! he would be Narutos own Aizen except for the pwnage skills.
