Sasuke made the right decision when he left Konoha.

If Sasuke stayed behind in Konoha he would be an inferior ninja unless he developed the MS under Kakashi's tutelage. The manga has given us no reason to suspect that Sasuke is capable of developing Kakashi's MS or that Kakashi is capable to teaching the technique to Sasuke.

It seems reasonable to conclude that Sasuke was better off running away.

  1. Measuring Stick:
    • Sasuke is hunting down his older brother alone, and Itachi has every reason to be the more powerful ninja.
      • Sasuke and Itachi were born with equal potential.
      • Itachi has an additional 5 years of training and combat experience.
      • Itachi has the MS. (Which, although it causes blindness, is definitely powerful enough to be considered an advantage.
      • Itachi was raised and trained around a loving and supporting clan.
      • Itachi was trained by Uchiha Madara.

  2. Sasuke’s current advantages in the manga: 5
    • Sasuke has (or had) Orochimaru’s powers and the remnants of his organization. advantage (+2)
      • This gave him the tool he needed to find Itachi. +1
      • Orochimaru just saved Sasuke’s life in the manga. +1
    • Sasuke has the Curse Seal. advantage (+3)
      • Healing Powers +1
      • More Chakra +1
      • Wing +1
    • Sasuke has the 3-Tomoe Sharingan equal (+0)
    • The results of Orochimaru’s Training. advantage (+3)
      • Dimension Jump +1
      • Extension Sword +1
      • Genjutsu Training sufficient to put him on equal footing with Itachi.+1
    • Kirin: which Sasuke appears to have developed himself. (+0)

  3. Sasuke’s current theoretical advantages had he remained in Konoha: 4 or 5.
    • Kirin: which Sasuke appears to have developed himself. equal (+0)
      • Sasuke would have developed Kirin under Kakashi’s tutelage as easily as under Orochimaru’s.
      • Kakashi has a penchant for encouraging his students to come up with
      super techniques.
    • No Curse Seal: no effect. (+0)
      • Kakashi stated pretty clearly that the Curse seal stunts a Ninja’s growth and limits their potential. +1
      • No healing powers. -1
    • The Results of Kakashi’s Training: advantage (+1-2)
      • Kakashi possesses the MS, and knowledge of its uses and applications. This insight would greatly advantage Sasuke in a fight, and supply him with actual MS combat experience while training with Kakashi. +1
      • It’s unrealistic but possible that Kakashi might have been able to train Sasuke in the use of his own, which would obviously be an advantage. +0 or +1

    • The Results of Training with Naruto: advantage (+2)
      • For the sake of simplicity we will assume that Naruto would have progressed as the same speed if Sasuke had stayed in Konoha.
      • Pre-timeskip Naruto was at least as powerful as the majority of Ororchimaru’s henchmen.
      • Post timeskip Naruto is capable of facing off with members of Akatsuki.
      • Naruto is nearly indestructible.
      • Naruto’s stamina allows him to push Sasuke to his limits every training session. +1
      • You can actually kill shadow clones during fights. Sasuke mainly seems to practice killing blows. +1

    • The Results of Training with Sakura: advantage (+1)
      • For the sake of simplicity we will assume that Naruto would have progressed as the same speed if Sasuke had stayed in Konoha.
      • Post timeskip Sakura is capable of facing off with members of Akatsuki.
      • Considering that Sasuke learned Lee's taijutsu after one encounter it seems like that after years of training with Sakura he would benefit a great deal from observing chakra control abilities. +1

Am I the only person who thinks that puking snakes and having snakes puke you are fucking badass?

Sasuke wouldn't have learned that in pansyland, nor would our 'main character' have much of an objective. :LOS

You mean Oro turning I???????

What do you know of Yamato Wood?

Sasuke really did benefit from Orochimaru's teaching, that is not something which can be ignored. Sasuke really relies on the power of his cursed seal to win battles, and Kakashi would have told him to not use it. Without Cursed Seal + Orochimaru training, Sasuke would be upper Chuunin level or just making Jounin now. He would not be were he is now.

You seem to have included Jugo, Karin and Suigetsu as a + in helping to find Itachi yet neglected to point out that had he stayed in Konoha he could possibly have had resources from Konoha to help in the tracking such as Neji, Hinata or Kiba?

It has given us no reason to suspect that he couldn't.

Sasuke could have created Kirin in the Leaf, he could have signed another summoning contract, and he could have been a position against Itachi where he's not, until proven otherwise, shit outta' luck and alone against one of the strongest ninja in the Manga.

Now, I don't put my moral standards above everyone else's, but I don't see how you can call associating yourself with a murderer like Orochimaru and playing with people's lives as the right thing to do.

I hadn't considered use of Konoha ninja in tracking Itachi. That's interesting, and possibly changes the balance a bit. Though i have a feeling Itachi could have shaken anyone but Karin.

-I accounted for him creating Kirin in either situation.
-Developing the MS in Konoha only puts him on equal footing.
-I hadn't taken summons into account, but thank you for mentioning it. Unfortunately it either works in favor of Sasuke running away or has no impact considering he can currently do it in the manga.

While you raise a good point in a world governed by our set of rules and ethical restraints you seem to be forgetting that Naruto is a world in which society is structured in such a way children murder each other for money.

There's more to being a good ninja than simply being able to use more powerful jutsu. The shinobi of Konoha have always followed the motto that the ability to help others and defend the ones you care about is what true power is. There are greater virtues in the world than the ability to murder another.

However, if you're just talking about sheer fighting ability, I think it's still a little too early to say. Aside from his sharingan plot no jutsu gimmicks, most of what Sasuke uses are forbidden jutsu taught to him by Orochimaru. These techniques are forbidden for a reason, which can range anywhere from destroying your own humanity to degrading your own overall health. We've already seen that using the cursed seal for too long can have dire physical effects, for example.

Also, I don't entirely believe it was Orochimaru's unique training that made Sasuke so powerful. Kabuto made note of Sasuke's incredible chakra even before he started the training, and Orochimaru had marvelled at Sasuke's "genius" during excersizes. Furthermore, we have seen in the past that Sasuke can cultivate his sharingan's potential through his own experiences rather than need requirement of training, and we can see in the case of Kirin, Chidori Nagai, etc, that Sasuke has spent the time developing his own techniques, not just the ones Orochimaru teaches him. Sasuke's current power has less to do with training under Orochimaru and more to do simply with realizing his own natural potential. There's no reason to believe he couldn't achieve similar heights of power under other teachers, or even simply teaching himself. Although there would probably be less snakes involved. :p

Chuu~

it was a nice move indeed thats why he's eyes are about to be taken :zaru

Either that or Oro takes over his body...

Sasuke is actually fucked for life, just like Naruto...Oro lives as long as Sasuke lives, just like a Hocrux (made by Voldemort).

I'm sure Sasuke will NEED to be saved by Naruto in the end.

It was the right decision for his objective yeah. There is no way he would be as strong as he is now if he stayed in Konoha. I'm not saying that's morally right but hey he's an avenger.

if sasuke was with konoha, he wouldnt have oro's rebirth technique and ameterasu would have really killed sasuke.

Sasuke made the wrong decision based on the fact kishi has made 3 rescue Sasuke arcs

why would an author put so much focus on saving Sasuke if nothing bad is going to happen to Sasuke and he completes his goal? from a logical perpective why would an author do this?

uchiha fans need to wake up

Sasuke's choice to leave Konoha wasn't a question of whether he'd be stronger or weaker if he did. Sasuke's issue is not about the "right path to power". It's about the meaning and importance of friendship. Sasuke was wrong simply because he eschewed friendship for revenge. Whether or not he'd become stronger this way was never important.

he made the wrong decision......why cant you understand the morality of this manga?

he betrayed his village, hurt his friends and gave up everything for power and it was not enough to beat Itachi, the path he chose was wrong

so says kishi, read the manga and look for the numerous times that sasuke was"in the darkness"

The village betrayed him first, they failed to protect his clan and they used him as a tool to hype their village knowing Uchiha's were the most powerful clan.

Sasuke deserted the deserters.

^ Oh yes damn Konoha for not protecting their elite police force from two of its own members, one of which was long thought dead.:awesome

And considering Sasuke has a superiority complex just because he's a Uchiha he didn't really need any help hyping himself.

Konoha=one big family right?:p

Weres the other ninja's helping out Uchiha's?

Or are they so pretensive when it comes to helping out the most powerful clan?

Konoha ditched the Uchiha clan, face it. And Sasuek stems hatred for that. Hell noone from konoha even tried to interfer with the Uchiha's for safety procautions, since Itachi was the strongest ninja in the village.
