His character is about revenge, to avenge the death of his family. That's all Sasuke lives for. If he happens to defeat Itachi, then Sasuke's significance in the manga is over. If he is able to defeat Itachi, what next? He has no purpose... so is he going back to Konoha? It doesn't make sense does it... Naruto's purpose would then also be over, because Sasuke has no meaning in the Manga, then what is Naruto's? Naruto, apparently, doesn't care about being Hokage anymore, and only wants to bring Sasuke back.

I have come to the conclusion that the Naruto manga is going to end after Itachi is defeated by Sasuke because both main characters(Sasuke and Naruto) no longer have a purpose.

But wait... Naruto will then walk Sasuke's path and become an avenger. He will try to avenge Jiraiya's death, then it will be Sasuke trying to bring Naruto back to Konoha. What the F?

If more important things are brought to Naruto's attention, he will put Sasuke on the side for a while as long as he believes Sasuke is safe. Pein, the Key, Jiraiya's death.

I don't agree with your assessment of Sasuke.

He does have a goal beyond revenge. He wants to rebuild his clan.

Anyway I don't even think he's going to defeat or kill Itachi, but we'll see. I think Itachi's innocent, personally.

Besides, even if Sasuke does achieve his revenge and isn't happy about it, that's not to say that he can't rebuild his life. With Naruto's help, he can, maybe that's what his story is about.

Shikamaru took revenge on Hidan and I don't see people saying his character has no more purpose, heck people said he should become Hokage because he murdered Hidan for revenge.

So I don't see why Sasuke should die if he gets revenge or something like that. If Shikamaru can be happy after torturing and burying Hidan, then Sasuke should be allowed to be happy IF, and that's a big if, Itachi really is guilty and he stops him.

But I think Sasuke's got a huge heart and won't be able to kill Itachi.

In any case, Sasuke has plenty to live for and it would be stupid of Kishimoto to make Sasuke suffer any more than he already has.

Sasuke's finally due some happiness if you ask me. Unlike Shikamaru, I think he'll learn that the real key to happiness is loving, and forgiving, not torture and killing out of revenge.:)
 
This entire thread is fail if Itachi just died in the latest chapter. We saw him collapse, and if hes dead then it wasnt because Sasuke killed him sorry. Sasuke didnt avenge anyone because he didnt kill Itachi, the poor man simply died. And if he died because of the snake thing that we saw in the chapter then Sasuke had help. Not an avenger, not even a garbage killer like Naruto (Kakuzu vs Naruto). Sorry Sasuke but this entire trip was a waste.

but you see, shikamaru is not an avenger. sasuke is an avenger.. and once he gets revenge, then what? shikamaru has always been a leader type, and he can lead very well with his smarts. sasuke, however... if he wanted to rebuild his clan, he'd have banged sakura or karin already, but that's not the case. because all he cares about is revenge.
 
Whaaat? I always believed that Sasuke did give a proper introduction speech and sasuke did not went along with the sound 4. Also Sasuke didn't try to break bonds with naruto even one time.

no, cuz sasuke is the one who gonna revive the clan....

apparently, not many people have the brain capacity to read beyond the title. sasuke's only purpose is to avenge his clan. once he's done that, he no longer has a purpose.. which means naruto has no purpose. do you get it?
 
Naruto does have other things to do, he's just not doing them right now. :(

Sasuke wants to restore his clan. He's gonna be smexin' it up wit some Konoha kunoichi. :jk
 
I would never have guessed, to some extent he is yes, but some of his supposed revenge is make himself feel better as well. However Naruto does have a purpose as well after Madara, and that is to become Hokage.

Right now this is true.

Not true. He is significant in relation to Naruto if nothing else. No purpose? He's still got a vendetta. After defeating Itachi he'll go after Madara.

Reread the reunion scene. Naruto still wants to be Hokage, but he doesn't feel worthy of protecting a whole village if he can't save even one friend. Plus there's Akatsuki to deal with. There is no lack of meaning or purpose for either of them.

Kishimoto is not that dumb (to end the story like that). There's still way more to tell. Though the reversal thing is...kind of interesting...

No, Narutos purpose would not be over. Neither would Sasukes (he will go after Madara, after killing Itachi)

Anyway, Naruto thinks he cannot become hokage unless he "saves" his friend from the path he has chosen. Even if he "saves" sasuke he has two other purposes left:

(1) Surpassing all the previous Hokages, and becoming hokage

(2) Saving the world from Akatsuki. He is the destined child afterall.

No. Naruto wouldnt hurt his friends, betray his village, and practically throw away his life just to go after Pain. He'll acknowledge that Pain killed Jman, but he'll wait for his chance to defeat Pain, avenge Jman, and save the world all in the same day. He's got responsibilities.
