Fade To Black
Well, from the most recent popularity poll most of us saw that Ichigo had dropped from 1st position to 3rd position, right behind one Kuchiki Rukia, :love, and right in front of one Grimmjow Jeagerjaques :oh. Some thought the popularity poll was simply baffling, because characters like Kira and Hinamori scored in the top 10 instead of the usual staple charries of Kenpachi, Urahara, Yoruichi, and Gin. Regardless, the data shows that Ichigo lost votes, approximately 541 votes. :omg

Of course, the popularity polls aren't conducted in a highly professional manner and could be skewed by a variety of factors and don't necessarily indicate that fans are falling out of love with Ichigo, but it's interesting to note that this character had always been number 1 in the past 3 popularity polls. :yell

So I was wondering if that had something to do with his performance in Hueco Mundo arc compared to other arcs. And now that the arc has finally ended, I wanted to know what others thought about Ichigo's overall performance in the Hueco Mundo arc.

Was it brilliant? Was it mediocre? Was it just plain uninspiring? :oh Did he end up looking like a hero or more of a side character? Did he end up losing more battles than winning? :notrust Did he show great resolve or weak resolve? Did he actually achieve something epic or end up looking like a confused fool at the end of the arc? :omg

Most of all, I want my public stats :occa :occa

On a scale of 1-10, rate Ichigo's performance in the Hueco Mundo arc. :amuse

10/10.

He ain't a generic Shounen mofo who always wins (aka Naruto,Sasuke). He got his ass kicked, but then he gives it back 10 times in return...:zaru

^ you are right but I am sick of Ichigo drowning in his pool of blood before/after each fight. He is the main character, we know he is not going to die(noone dies in beach anyways), atleast he should pwn someone right off the bat.

Ichigo had four fights in this arc. Two he won, two he lost. He donned his Hollow Mask in three of them. Getsuga Tenshou remained his only technique. The only new thing he displayed was the ability to maintain his Hollow Mask much longer than before.

I'm actually pretty sure Ulquiorra killed Ichigo before, as Orihime can revive the dead.

When it comes down to it, Ichigo fought at a high level and displayed some nice fighting, but nothing new or earthshattering.

7/10

Ichigo needs a Zangetsu training arc to learn some new moves. Either that, or a Shirosaki training arc to learn Cero and partial transformations (those claws could come in handy). Until then, he's pretty repetitive, which makes his fights uninteresting. It's no fun watching a fight when all you see is the same black wave every 3 pages.

So, overall, he gets a 6/10. He wasn't completely horrible, above failing, but right there.

Great fighting. But nothing really new. The Vizard form just gave Ichigo more power and speed.

7/10

I see Shirosaki coming up soon though.

But that's just cause I want to see Shirosaku vs Ulquiorra. Hollow King of Laughter vs the Saddest Clown in Creation.

well, i can say ichigo did the best he could to his ability. and the man didn't catch a break with fights back to back to the point of exhaustion and getting beat by mr.pumba. of course, he did had to be saved by orihime and only cause grimmjow was generous enough to bring orihime to him so he could fight him. a hero that needed to be saved by an enemy is kinda unheroic.

but i think in general, most of us thought that this rescue arc was going to fail and they had to be saved, and it did happen that way. it's not really ichigo's fault that he failed against ulqui, logically it had to happen and should happen.

i guess i give him an 8/10 =/ ichigo remained true to himself. he was simply outmatched.

I gave him a 2. Though Sensei gave him a three and usually she's the harsher one. :omg

Anyway, perhaps it's just because I've just caught up with Gantz, even though it's a seinen rather than a shounen, I'm a little harsh because Kei-chan is such an awesome hero that grows so much throughout the whole series. :cry Perhaps I find Ichigo a little lackluster because of that...

However, I really thought that Ichigo's character development went nowhere this arc. I think I was discussing this in the chapter thread in December with Ez about how everyone expected Ichigo to lose his "chocolate", especially after his encounter with Doldonii. This thread was never followed because the egotistical Ichigo decided to let Grimmjow live instead of killing him, abiding by some nonexistent code of honor that Nnoitra shatters by attacking him when he has no strength. Violence FTW!! :occa

I'm sure people have argued that he didn't kill Grimmjow because he didn't want to end up like him, someone who just lives to fight, but seriously this lack of killing instinct just made me think that Ichigo is living in a fantasy world. GJ isn't a sympathetic character, he could logically end up hurting people close to Ichigo, people who Ichigo strives to protect.

And tbh, asking ohime-chan to heal Grimmjow right before the fight was just a dumb move designed to feed Ichigo's ego, knowing the satisfaction of defeating someone without an advantage, rather than anything else. >_<

As for his battles, yeah I found them pretty passionless and boring. He has no strategy, not like Ishida showed initially against Szayel :love, nor any finesse. He just hacks and slashes and I got bored quickly.

Anyway, that's my justification. :yell

I'll give him a 7. As others have said before, he's prone to losing and against such odds, it's understandable. Rather than have him pwn everyone, he takes his loses then returns stronger. For that, his performance was good. Still, the way it was set up, I don't see how he won against GJ.

4/10

Lengthening his mask without any special training was his only acheivement. Otherwise, his fighting skills were miserable.

I don't blame him though as it was harder, since it was unfamiliar terrritory and only a severely handicapped Nel was helping them, instead of the vast amount of knowledge and help hegot in soul society.

because Ezxx doesn't want to post :yell, he said I can just copy and paste the msn convo. :oh

Well, his character has noticeably changed for the worse. He's slightly more angsty and still a boring fighter. There have been moments where he's shown his caring side as well. He's not the only character to receive poor treatment this arc. I'm not going to be too hard on him, though. 6/10.

too bad I can't vote for him :(

7/10
His performance in this arc was okay, but compared to his performance in the SS arc, his performance here was truly pathetic. I hope his perfomance in any future arcs is better than what its now. Plus he needs to learn something new. His bankai and hollow mask arent enough to defeat any Espada above 6.

Failkage needs a new bankai.
Apart for some "shiny" moments, he was pretty boring. And I usually really like Ichigo.

So 6/10.

While I love ichigo, I am getting bored by the monotonous slash and beam-of-energy; the new mask can only hold back the boredom so much. He seems to have gotten somewhat stronger versions of what we've seen before but I'm still waiting for something to diversify his fighting style a bit. Rawr-smash is already a kenpachi signature; he needs to find his own thang.

I don't like my main characters to sit on the side-lines with WTF? looks. For the better part of the Nnoitra fights he was no more than a goddamned male Inoue. His Grimmjow fight was generic at best. Getting his ass kicked continuously however sort of retained some of his credibility so I guess like a 4/10. He was a miracle worker however when compared to his peers who just fell so out of perspective that you have to question whether or not Kubo is, in reality, totally dependent on popularity in writing the plot.

'cept Rukia. Ichigo ain't got shit on the little underdeveloped ghost girl.

:laugh

I can't help but agree with a lot of this. I think Ichigo himself felt inadequate standing on the sidelines and saying "he has six arms :omg" like a spectator. That was the first time we've ever seen him really in that role. I guess that's why he wanted to stay in Hueco Mundo to continue fighting instead of get the girl and run. :amuse

Where's the fail option.

the only decent things in HM arc were. Rukia's fight, Byukaya and Nel. Everything else was massive fail.

He beat dordonni
Lost to ulqy but we know that was a setup to their eventual encounter
Managed to beat #6 espada

He was only getting owned by noi because he targeted ichigo in a weak state for having a flashy battle in HM so I don't count that

He didn't do badly at all

2/10

1) In his fight against Dordoni, got his ass kicked in his shikai, used his bankai and as soon as he gained the upper hand he decided to use his vizard mask just cause his opponent asked him to do so. ( WTF?)

2) Against Ulquiorra, two words, Butt Sex

3) Against Grimmjow, got his ass kicked during the entire fight untill he suddenly said : " I can't allow you to hurt me anymore." and then he won in a strike ( Stupidest Plot no jutsu I've ever seen). And even after he won he decided to leave a bloodthirsty opponent who has a personal grudge against him alive (doesn't he know that he's gonna fight him again??). And when Nnoitra tried to do ichigo a favor by killing Grimmjow he saved him !! WTF?

4) I won't talk about the Noitra and tesla fights since he was at his limits before they appear, however i would like to note that Ichigo could've simply grabbed Inoue and run while Noitra was busy with Grimmjow instead of trying to save him. (Espicially that we know that Noitra is slow).

One of the weakest performances by Ichigo.
