PURE OWNAGE
Finally one question has been answered:
There's your proof.
I can actually be satisfied with the end of this fight, because in the next chapter we get to see exactly where Sasuke stands. Will he sacrifice his honor as a shinobi to kill his defenseless brother, or will he draw the line there?
Sasuke's honor is all he really has left. He gave up his village, his friends, his morals, and his future. It was honor that kept him going on the path of revenge. Honor that led him to leave the village, and honor that let him choose his own path of power instead of following in Itachi's footsteps.
Though much of what he's done has been wrong in other's eyes, in his own he's done the honorable thing all along in his role as the avenger. This is why he didn't hesitate to kill Oro, and why he's never been able to forgive Itachi: both have sacrificed their honor much in the same way, so he has no respect for the former and no love for the latter.
But now he's faced with a dilemma: by killing Itachi in the condition that he's in, he will effectively reduce himself to the level that he's abhorred for so long. Like I said he saw Oro's methods and Itachi's motivations to be practically identical. But by achieving his goal and killing Itachi, he will become what Itachi was, even if the didn't reach the destination the same way Itachi did.
So I'm looking forward to the next chapter, just to see what Sasuke will do. Will he make the right decision, or the wrong one?
And it was all worth it watching Sasuke freak out. Man! What a scene! I don't think he's been that ready to crap his pants since Grass Nin/Oro in the FoD.
So, was the head poke because he's blind and he's feeling for Sasuke's eyes?
Nah. I think it was the ultimate "dis." He was reminding Sasuke that he ALWAYS was the little brother, not as good, not as powerful... and he always will be-- until he lost conscious and hit his head on the wall.
Deus ex machina.
