i actually found it weirdly touching that Itachi poked Sasuke on the forehead at the end of this fight. just like he used to when they were kids, but was he thinking of sasuke's eyes even back then?
 
I don't think so, there was a time period when Itachi really did have a bond with Sasuke. This was before Itachi found out the secrets of the clan I think.

We can't trust everything Itachi says, he was putting on a big front to make Sasuke hate him back then. But the ending of this chapter confirms it, that he do care about Sasuke.
 
There's no doubt about it, all that eye-plucking business certainly changed the forehead-poking moments :noworry
Itachi could genjutsu people by pointing at them (that counts as poking too, i guess) :zaru

So a lot of the brotherly moments with Itachi may have all been simply genjutsu :cry I've always believed that Itachi has been a cruel and a sick bastard, but the last forehead poke... it could very well be a genjutsu that explains the massacre :awesome
 
I don't think it was intentional. He probably just died/passed out at that particular instance.

Although I like to think it was intentional, because that would be sort of sweet, I'm convinced it was an accident and he just passed out though.
 
The poke to the forehead obviously wasn't intentional, but I think it was supposed to be symbolic of Sasuke still not measuring up to him. Now that Itachi's out, he probably never will, which sucks for Sasuke.
 
I doubt it. Itachi must have thought about the Eternal Mangekou Sharingan after feeling the effects of his vision wearing away or becoming sick of Madara. I never bought that he only was brotherly to Sasuke just to test his capacity, the effect Sasuke had on Itachi exceeded that of anyone else. The reason for poking Sasuke on the forehead is unclear, but it could have been done as a brotherly reminder of their past.
