Pokemon game/anime/manga inconsistencies

Castiel

OH MY GRODD
Retired Staff
What would you guys say is the biggest gap in power between the same pokemon in how they appear in the game and how they appear in the manga and the anime.

Mewtwo by far has the biggest gaps in power depending on the media, including the games.

Games. Mewtwo starts out as questioningly the strongest pokemon there is as soon as you catch him. They had some good legendaries in the second game, but they couldn't really stack up to Mewtwo, even when you first catch Mewtwo and you havn't really raised his levels yet or anything.

Mewtwo in the Anime is able to control the weather on a continental level. Other Pokemon sense then have met or exceeded this feat though in the anime. Still he's powerful and by far the most intelligent pokemon to date, just not as powerful as some of the newer legendaries.

Mewtwo in Pokemon Adventures is interesting. He has a psychic barrier that stood up to Lance's Dragonite's Hyperbeam which took out an entire city and killed everyone. That Mewtwo also suffered from a genetic disease that was slowly killing him though. The disease was cured later on. The only pokemon that for sure stronger than him now are the two new legendaries that came out with Diamond and Pearl. Darkrai is about as strong as he is, but being a Dark type he'd probably beat Mewtwo.

I'd also like to mention Lucario, in the anime he's shown to be quite a powerful pokemon but in the game while this is true to some extent his dual type (Steel/Fighting) opens up waaay too many weaknesses for something the anime showed was that strong.

Seriously, they had to nerf Mewtwo so much and introduce the Dark Type to equal him to the rest of the Legendaries.

Also, Arceus, mother fuckers!

Lucario is a pretty good example as mentioned.

The main inconsistency I have a problem with is the gym leaders + elite 4 and other trainers.

In the manga they are serious business and no child with a fresh lvl 5 charmander 20mins into their journey can beat them.

Even Team Rocket are baddass in manga.

^ Oh if we are going by "pokédex" feats then can I bring in "pokédex" feats from the Card game too?

For example Dragonite can circumnavigate the globe in 16 hours and not get tired.

But to be honest, I don't really take "pokédex" feats seriously. They are the failed attempt of hyperbole by hyperactive creators.

the Dragonite thing was stated in game as well

and in the anime(1st movie, and in later shows)

haven't read the manga, but apparently he can in there too

pokedex feats seem to be accurate, seeing as a single rampaging pokemon is capable of destroying a large city

the anime just makes everyone look weak, except for the humans, which survive hyperbeams, and flame throwers

I remember one real old episode where Team Rocket are falling from a very tall building and are crapping it about dying. I remember thinking that it's such bullshit - they survive re-entry, Hyper Beams, Thunder, explosions etc all the bloody time...you'd need an A-Bomb to kill 'em....

^ They'd probably survive that with nothing more than a Team Rocket's blasting off againnnnnnnnnnnnnn *

Also the data book said a Raichu could knock out a Dragonite, didn't ash (and possibly team rocket) survive a Raichu shock? are they seconds cousins to Lambo from reborn or something?

Charizard has fire so hot it can "melt boulders" by Pokédex info, yet Ash can continually be incinerated by him with no serious injury.

Anime Mewtwo is broken as fuck. Continetal weather control, massive telepathatic abilities, ect...
seeing how strong Alakazam psy powers are and the huge gap in between his and Mewtwos stats, it's very likely

even gardivairs 2nd stage is said to have psy powers strong enough to wrap reality around itself when at full power

Which is only to say because Mewtwo had to be nerfed routinely to not be broken compared most the other Legendaries...

Mew got the worst nerf in the game

before D/P, he was supposed to be the single most powerful pokemon, besides Mewtwo

in the games tho, his stats are very weak

even adding D/P
mew(by official story standards) still might be the 2nd strongest

as he has the DNA and the abilities of all pokemon

What about DEoxyx from the movie, supposedly he was really cheap. Gamewise, Mewtwo no doubt. Funny thing is, the pokemon who Mewtwo can killin the first of the games with two or three strikes almost have a 50/50 against the newer legendaries.

Heres a good one. Lance's Dragonite is used Hyperbeam to bust a whole city and killed a bunch of people in Pokemon Adventures. Same Dragonite was later taken out by Red's Pikachu using a thunder bolt.

In fact the Elite Four in Pokemon Adventures thought that people where expanding into Pokemon's natural territory too much and their master plan to wipe out most of the human race so that the Pokemon could reclaim all the land humans stole from them.

Pokemon Adventures is really different from all the other sources.

The difference Red from Pokemon Adventures and Ash from the anime is a lot like comparing Luffy to Naruto. Red would stomp that match every time.

Pokemon Adventure is better than the anime in every way. Ash would very likely die competing in the manga version of the League.

That's always a gag scene though, in the manga and anime.

True enough to be fair, but the other point would be every single Pokémon that Charizard attacks with a Flamethrower that - apparently - has the power to break a boulder and melt almost anything.

Some more Pokédex madness includes:
Blastoise's water cannons can fire so strongly they can even punch through thick steel.

Pidgeot can see a splashing Magikarp...3300 foot up in the air...and can fly at Mach 2

Raticate in one entry boasts being able to topple concrete buildings...by gnawing them

Nidoking in one entry boasts a horn so hard that it can pierce diamond

Ninetails can live for 1,000 years in Pokémon Silver's Pokédex entry

Machoke from varying entries would be unstoppable if you remove it's special belt and in another version it never gets tired. Then there's Machamp who can move mountains with one arm and can react faster than it can think.

Rapidash can reach it's top speed of 150mph after just ten steps...yeah

Professor Oak is touched by Muk all the time in Anime, but by Pokédex just touching Muk results in a high fever that requires bed rest.

Cloyster has a harder-than-diamond shell and even missiles cannot break the spikes it fires from it...which are even harder. Oh and once it closes its shell it's impossible to open. By anyone. Even if they're stronger.

3,600 degree magma is of no consequence to Rhydon.

Gyarados can destroy entire cities in a rage - that's one, single Gyarados where the Anime would require it to be a gang of them.

You really can't cross reference the anime, games, and manga. They're essentially three different pokemon universes.

^ QFT

Think threads need to distinguish which version we are using.

In terms of power Games > Anime > Manga.

Anime beating out the games ONLY due to what some pokemon accomplish in the movies, if you go by average, the manga stomps the anime in power.

Manga is more "realistic" though in the fact that the anime is full of gag scenes etc..

Wrong! Games = Manga >>> Anime. In Pokemon Adventures you actually Red and Blue add in the pokedex entries from the game, (where most of their feats come from) themselves, usually after observing feats themselves.

True, the pokedex entries are straight from the games. But then the matter of inconsistent showings comes up.

Ash has never even won an anime tournament. Ash is lower mid tier AT BEST. Also he's won all his Gym Badges on Technicallity, he only won like 3 based on his own skill.
