Pein + Itachi v.s. Akatsuki + Orochimaru

Orochimaru would go down quickly because of Itachi. Pain is most likely well aware of the abilities of all of his members, which should give him enough of an advantage to take them down one by one. Deidara's suicide bomb could be problematic, though.

I'm going to agree with Denji that Oro would get put down immediately and that Pein can take down some of his members with ease, but Deidara's C4 bomb could be a problem.

I don't think Deidara's C4 Bomb will be a problem as Pein has the Rinnegan and Itachi has the Sharingan. Anyway, I'm under the impression that Pein can take down Sasori, Hidan, Konan and Kakuzu by himself and afterwards, Madara. While Pein is doing that Itachi can take Oro I guess. Kisame and Zetsu are the real problems.

I don't think that Pein can beat them all by himself. Not if they use team work atleast. Kakuzu, Hidan, and Sasori have the potential to be an amazing team. Kakuzu is going to find out that he needs to beat fat Pein quickly, and with Sasori and Hidan stalling the other bodies of Pein I can see Kakuzu easily using his threads to do that. After that with Kakuzu's ninjutsu, and Sasori's Iron sand causing distraction Hidan should be able to get some of the Peins blood.

While Pein is doing that Itachi can take Oro I guess. Kisame and Zetsu are the real problems.
Deidara and Kisame should be enough for Itachi. The main problem I see here is Itachi's Amaterasu. I don't think that he could catch either of them in a sharingan genjutsu. That leaves more chakra for Itachi to use Amaterasu. But with the range that Deidara is at I don't think it could reach him, and I don't think that they would give him enough time to use it more than once.

Yeah, Madara sorta trumps the Itachi card. That leaves like 8 members vs. Pein. Sure, Pein could probably take three or four at once, but eight is freakin' overkill to the nth degree.

I'm assuming Madara is not on the other team, because it seems somehow against what I reason is the spirit of the fight: Akatsuki's "traditional" most powerful (excluding Madara) against the rest of "traditional" Akatsuki. I consider Madara something of a dark horse, distinct from Akatsuki.

This is hard to call. Recent events have led me to judge Pein and Itachi well able to defeat the likes of Kakuzu and Sasori, meaning that I've finally admitted that there are shinobi who can put Sasori to rest quite comfortably. He's still dangerous, but I'm not willing to say anymore that he might be able to go toe-to-toe with Itachi. Orochimaru, however, has survived, with yamata and his underground Kusanagi attack synergising perfectly.

Itachi can deal some heavy damage with his Mangekyō, and while he may be a little vulnerable his eventual death won't be the end of the fight: Pein will keep fighting, despite not being as deadly at any one time as Itachi using Mangekyō. The only shinobi I can see being really significant are Sasori, Orochimaru and Deidara. Orochimaru will abuse the chaos to attack Itachi with a bit more common sense, and that's a problem for Itachi. Sasori is deadly, but his enemies know that and have some very powerful and unfair attacks to level at him.

Deidara is similar. C3 #18 and C4 Garuda are very dangerous, which is precisely why Pein will waste no time in attacking Deidara, and why Itachi (who will, with perfect rationality, start with susano'o or amaterasu) will turn to Deidara after using Pein's charge as a distraction to aim for Sasori.

Tentatively I'll say Pein and Itachi. Massive early damage, Itachi dying to Orochimaru (yes, really), and Pein and Orochimaru being precious beauties of invulnerability as the remaining shinobi on Orochimaru's side whittle themselves away – Hidan and Kakuzu included. Very ilttle will get past Pein's coordinated defences, and Orochimaru will be a stealthy, unfair and tenacious bastard. It'll come down to the two of them, and Orochimaru will lose.

Signed and on top of that, we don't even know what Rinnegan is capable of at it's fullest and i'm pretty confident it can At Least rival a fully developed MS if not top it.

Yeah, full Pein is probably going to be quite scary. At the moment he's quite restricted and is only really all that useful for a) summon spamming and b) black sword spamming. He's going to show more, I figure, and it'll be nasty: probably some very high level elemental jutsu and some other scary techniques.

If oro could use Edo Tensai he could just suming the 4the and its over.
Good point, but edo tensei needs preparation: more than you think. I was under the impression he needed remains of whoever he was summoning, and he also needs a sacrifice. Plus, there's no telling that he could bring Namikaze back, since he's in the Shinigami's stomach.
