OL Community Discussion Thread

Hi OL,

Old man Shrike here. Wanted to address you all and talk about a few things, general stuff, the community as a whole, the issues, the good things, the future etc in these talks, which we should do at least twice a year imo.

The events that transpired in late Wano sure were divisive - and while everyone absolutely should be entitled to their opinion and be able to say it, we could try to avoid toxicity and further division of the community.

So first and foremost, the main goal of this thread is to keep doing what we have been trying to do these last several months (ever since the fan wars started being a lot more common and X fandom boasting about Y coin while bringing down Z fandom) - with quite some success, because people have been largely wholesome in regards to reducing toxicity and taking the discussions more as light-hearted banter than actual flame wars (especially proud of BM fans for this). However, with BM's end and the focus shifting to Kaido and Luffy, the tensions are on the rise again.

Let's keep up the good work and as much as possible drop the actual toxicity that comes to warring fandoms and operate as one huge nerdy family that we are. Not everybody will like everybody else, but at least try to be civil even when you think someone is being dumb. Heated debates and callouts happen, but try to keep it more like @A Optimistic and @MO do - no real reason to hate the other person, just light-hearted poking at each other over BM or Zoro while enjoying the manga (or not enjoying it, that's fine too, but let's not get into flame wars. Now, with the divide being strong this weak, it's especially important to respect other people's opinions.

What we don't like to see:
-baiting/trolling entire fandoms: see, if you say X character is shit, that's fine. But if you say that in every other post of yours, then you're aiming at the said character's fandom, baiting for their reactions. Moreover, constant character bashing isn't helping either, so keep it at a reasonable level.
-threads that will be largely unpopular may get closed: why, you ask, when Zoro vs Shanks could happen, in theory? Because such threads become a pigsty very quickly. When making a thread which pushes a narrative about something that will spark toxicity, we might close it depending of our judgement call. You are free to complain, of course, mods make mistakes too.
-harassment: this one we take very seriously. Don't go after one specific person by constantly calling them out, let alone tagging them and being persistent especially when the said person already tells you to leave them alone. These cases will result in swift bans, there is no negotiation here.

Lastly, one of the purposes of this thread is to reconnect the OL members and the OL staff. We want to build a better communication, we want to try and avoid the "us vs them" attitude from anyone, mod or member. I feel that this bridge of communication is important because mods are members too, they have their own opinions, tier specialist claims, and favorite characters. If you feel like "How can Shrike be a mod with this much Zoro hate??" you should also feel like "How can convict be a mod with this much Zoro wank??" - and the entire point is that we make it work wonderfully because we don't really put thoughts about who likes which character as a defining trait of the other as a person. You should do that too!

Thank you for reading and for your future consideration of the fandom!

Cheers,
OL staff

lol didnt know you hate zoro, He look so fine as a character on top of being loyal to luffy and overprotective of SHs, he is also very strong. But you are right the toxic need to end and I think the first step to do it is to give each characters their credit. Dont call Z-bros retard and toxic just because they believe Zkk Will happen. In the end of day a theory is a theory and no one should the amount of toxicity the Z-bros have been exposed to because of it. For exemple me, I dont like luffy or Sanji but this doesnt mean I will be offended if Sanji fans make a theory that involve them. If no one like any theory we make they can just put us on ignore instead of insults. Everyone can believe what they want, I dont care as long they dont start calling other retard and name dropping us in thread to bait us. So like I say I realy agree with what you say. Thank you very much!

I don't hate Zoro, he's was in my top 5 pre-skip :feelsgoodman I just tend to clash with the more hardcore Zoro fans as they can get obnoxious about him, which is why I said someone might call me a Zoro hater.

Exactly, the entire point is reducing toxicity, so just extend a handshake even if you disagree or at least try not to call each other names, that's the point of this talk.

Thanks for this! :Mshad

While I don't personally experienced it like that ever, I know some others do/did. Great purpose.

Yeah, totally agree with you. One thing I've noticed is that if you like a certain character, some people would jump on you thinking you only like said character and revolve around that character.

I also get the vibe if your character doesn't perform well from a feat perspective, people are going to jump on you and purposely shit on you. I mean, come on now.

What's wrong with saying zkk was a pile of crap from the begging? Do we need to censure opinion...if I think it is I will write it and say as many times as needed... Some want to root and believe in zkk?! Fine,I will just tell them what i think lol live and let live this is the best way...if you can't stand it move it forward, don't mind it, any opinion is not absolute neither the dumbest one but we gonna cope with it and move along ...I might have wrote so many b's or wrong opinion that I can't count but same I could say about how many I read...so should be if we don't want an all agree fanverse... imho

Tl;dr Shrikey kun?

Seems pretty serious.

Ed: ah ok.

Shanks > Mihawk anyway. :sure

Wait...

It isn't a bait anymore.

I miss old One Piece when it was the main trigger.. :catcry

I agree we need to reduce toxicity in the OL. The First step would be to ban the most toxic person in the OL. That person being @A Optimistic :judgepepe

I agree with both of these suggestions. In addition MO's past winnings in the Chrolloseum should be reversed. And Ava should be forced on a journey of self reflection and can not return without a badass beard.

tbh I haven't noticed any toxicity but maybe i've just become really good at filtering it out of my brain :hm

Well I guess that is admirable.
I think overall on this forum lack of communication has become problem.

I think at some point staff of this forum (not just OL) has become detached from members and forgot that they are also just members on some anime forums.

This resonates with me even more given how power abusing some mods have become. Power went to their head and they became downright nasty.

But that also wouldn't change that some mods in this forum are also very friendly and has humble personality.

Thankfully OL has so far has not became that kinda of toxic. So your effort to be friendly with rest of us members is even more admirable and appreciated.

Of course we members also have responsibility of never letting our tier specialist behaviour go out of control.

I am sure we all will get along perfectly fine as long as you always agree with the fact that Robin is the best waifu.

But disagree with that and we will have a problem. :catgun

I been a member since 17 years, which is half my own age. And I rarely post in discussions as they tend to get out of control easily. For some reason a lot of people attach a lot of emotions to their favorite character and any deviating opinion is seen as a personal attack.Great job on opening such a thread to keep people aligned. At the end of the day, One Piece is a piece of fiction and the main character is literally a guy who bends/stretches reality so for things not to make sense makes sense and people getting all riled up because of inconsistencies or inconsistent opinions need to chill back.

and then tried to talk no jutsu us out of creating bait posts. :lmao

that's like talking up Captain Ahab from Moby Dick and then saying that whaling, no actually all kinds of fishing - is wrong and not welcomed.

Great post and wonderful. I agree with everything

@convict for being a cool mod. Not afraid to pick sides and troll every now and then, and is a part of the crew as a member. A real pirate if you may
Convict got my vote last year for the same logic.

Long story short. Like the great @Louis-954 once described unconditional love.. Everyone here is a retard, but they're my retards.
