Nicely done Kishi...

Agito

Lv1 Sasuke Fanboy
As a fan of good manga writing and an even bigger fan of Sasuke, I have to say Kishi did well.

This fight has been completely dull and pointless till this chapter. And Kishi has saved Sasuke from the inevitible irrelevance he was heading for.

This fight sucked ass... the ending is decent, lets hope Kishi doesn't fuck up the good base he just set for himself.

That is all.

Every chapter of this fight save 389 has been great. The ending was one of the best parts though, I give you that.

I disagree with dull, but I guess that can be a matter of taste. "Pointless", though? I don't even know how it could be construed as pointless.

Agito what exactly was it about this chapter that made it redeem this entire fight in your eyes?

I'm not disagreeing, just thought you should put little more explaination into the OP...

I didn't mind the fight. It definatly wasn't the best, but I didn't think it was dull... Mabey parts of it though. This chapter was actually great in my mind too. It showed that Sasuke couldn't achive his goal on his own after all. It showed that betraying your village and dishonoring your clan has it's downsides. Sasuke won a whim, and I know for a fact that he wont be satisfied with that. And who knows, mabey Oro will take his body next chapter :D

As I have seen from some post in the forum, something pointless is like, the parts between the begining and the end of the chapter:

Naruto becoming genin -------------------------pointless filler----------Konohamaru's Yuri jutsu----moar filler----- Naruto dying/becoming Hokage.

:zaru:zaru:zaru

Ah, that's true. I suppose saying its pointless was going too far. But to be honest the way the fight went on it felt kinda like they were just random people fighting for no reason. It had none of the emotion that I expected from the showpiece fight of the manga. The action wasn't particularly bad per se, but it just lacked substance.

Compare it to the Naruto v Gaara or Sasuke v Naruto and you will see a very clear difference. Not because the action in those fights is in any way more exciting, but the emotions running from the people involved gripped you much more than this fight. That lack of emotion makes this fight rather forgettable.

Its only saving grace in my eyes, is the ending. And the possibilities it opens up for the development of Sasuke's character.

THATS IT! I agree with this 100%. All this time I couldn't put my finger on why this fight just wasn't exciting for me and it was because they just seemed so cold. There WAS some emotion though, and there were even some unexpected ones, like the Itachi crazy face. I don't know I guess it just needed a little more angst or at least a flashback or something. Even the ending to me, although done well, wasn't as great as it would have been had I enjoyed the fight.

I wouldnt say it was dull and pointless it didnt do it for me at the very least. And I do agree that the ending was amusing, but definitely a "WTF" moment.

I wouldn't say the fight was pointless. As a matter of fact, the result of this fight will change the direction of the manga. It wasn't a an exciting fight from the beginning to the end due to excessive use of genjutsu and since Itachi didn't show us any of his regular techniques. A lot of people and myself were expecting Itachi do unveil something than jutsu on ranks with Amaratsu and genjutsu.

You can't call it pointless. The fight had to be done sooner or later. I didn't really like the fight but Kishi couldn't deliver a crucial fight that the whole manga had been rolling up to. But I really liked how it ended with Itachi bopping Sasuke's head, that really let a lot of stress out.

I enjoyed the fight not as a good as it could have been but I’m still reserving my final judgments until next week’s chapter to see how it all sum's up. Who knows maybe it really isn't over just yet

During the Naruto and Gaara fight they were constantly having thoughts about their upbringings as shinobi.

Gaara was given several lengthy flashbacks mid fight of how he was made into a tailed beast. How he tried to commit suicide, how his father wanted him killed, how his mother died giving birth to him, how his caretaker tried to kill him, how his village hated him, how the children hated him, how his siblings hated him. All of this was to show Gaara's deep emotional charge that drove him into a black hole of hatred and loathing. His only goal was to exist as a killing machine, a weapon of the Sand Demon sealed inside of him, Gaara's existence was only realized through the DEATH and KILLING of others.

Naruto on the other hand finally realized that people in the village cared about him, and to protect an important person in the words of the dead Haku, in the case of that fight, protecting Sakura, and the entire village from Shukaku the giant killer demon, was the place were true strength came from.

The pacing of the Sasuke vs Itachi fight was pathetic, slow, and boring.

Each week we had an orgasm of new jutsus and techniques that accomplished nothing. Amaterasu, Orochimaru Kawarimi, Kirin, Susano'o? They all looked cool but was basically a showcase of new jutsus with no real plot or backstory. This fight was probably the most anticipated fight in the manga. Sasuke should have been constantly saying how he was going to kill Itachi to avenge the clan and their parents. And Itachi should have been constantly saying how he was going to kill Sasuke just like he killed their parents. How Itachi was going to rip the eyes from Sasuke's head. Lines like "disappear with the thunder" were so cliche and dull I couldn't believe it.

When Sasuke FIRST fought Itachi...he charged the chidori and said he was going to avenge their parents' death. This time he babbled on about hatred and dreams and reality. If next week doesn't have some dramatic flashbacks and revelations about the clan I'll be sorely disappointed with this fight and Sasuke and Itachi's characters. Itachi already had the worst death of anyone notable so far. Sasuke might follow it up with the worst life.

Lengthy mid-fight flashbacks seem to really have been phased out of the manga, to Kishimoto's credit (save Pain v. Jiraiya's worthless flashbacks to six chapters before). I think his tendency to include lengthy flashbacks was really one of the big weaknesses of the part 1 fights.

It might seem fine when read in volume form, but a lengthy mid-fight flashback is just excruciating for the weekly reader. It was normally touted as the biggest problem with Naruto fights before the timeskip.

Yeah, I'm hoping for more drama as well. For such an inherently dramatic fight, we really didn't see much drama. There was little struggle by Sasuke, and there was barely a hint of drama or reflection save for a bloody poke on Sasuke's forehead.

I'm also hoping that Kishimoto decided to do what probably is the best thing to do: wait until the end of the fight to add some drama.

The ending...

Horrible in terms of action.

Amazing in terms of plot.

I have no idea what the hell Sasuke is supposed to do now, and I'm loving it.

Hope Kishi at least knows where this is going.

Itachi stumbling to his target, desperate till the end... how much cool can one bad guy's ending have?

Bravo, Kishi. Bravo.

I am glad that someone else actually thought of it, so that I can read it and say "you know what, you are right". I totally agree with your opinion about this fight in comparison to some of the previous fight in the manga.

i liked i like how sasuke kicked itachi ass and dint kill him if sasuke killed itachi there would not be returning back from being evil

What are you talking about? Itachi is dead. But nothing was accomplished. We are right back at square one. Now Sasuke has to kill the person who killed his family, who killed the entire clan....not Itachi...but Madara.

Now Sasuke's entire purpose is REVENGE.....AGAIN. And now he'll be pursuing Madara. Boooooooooooring. Same old Sasuke shit as usual.

This fight sucked, it had a few good parts

Itachi throwing Sasuke in that genjutsu
crazy itachi
Sasuke doing Karin
Itachi owning Oro, but besides that it was stupid. I mean, the way some of the events unfolded, "I got threw this genjutsu by hatred, fuck overpowering it with charka, Hatred is win" Then the ending...let me stop

meh, it woulda been cooler and more original if Sasuke had died. Resulting in, not only him never succeeding in any of his goals, but also a failure for Naruto and thus, for once, things aren't completely "YAY WORLD IS GOOD SMILES ON FACE RAINBOW IN SKY!" bullshit that anime turns into
