Residents of a Tulsa apartment complex are extremely lucky to be unharmed this morning after a military munition crashed nearby after apparently falling off a passing jet.

It happened Thursday afternoon near 51st and Lewis. Police showed up after the power went out at the Canyon Creek Apartments. When they arrived, they found what appeared to be a bomb. They called out the bomb squad, who quickly identified it as a military ordnance.

The military later took over the scene and said it had indeed lost a 'dummy bomb' off one of its planes during a training exercise. The ordnance hit an electrical box on the side of one of the apartments when it came down, taking out the power to at least two of the apartment buildings.

But, Captain Rick Helberg says things could have been much, much worse.

"The electrical meters are mounted on the building, so two or three feet over and it would have actually entered apartments," said Helberg.

There have been no reports of anyone being injured in the incident. The investigation into the mishap is being handled by the military.

It could be worse. During WWII, the Air Force tried to train bats - BATS - to fly around and drop bombs, and they ended up blowing up a grocery store or something. I kid you not.

At least it's not like that.

man... what would have happened if it was a real bomb? you think people have no faith in the government now, just wait till they start accidentally bombing our own citizens.

spam spam its good for the heart it makes you free it makes you fart

If it was a real bomb...I know how the government can cover it up.

Spin it to the terrorists. They did it for the lulz.

Not that this subject has anything to do with the subject at hand... but they were coated in incendiary material. The idea was for the bats to roost in the enemy buildings, then burst into flames.

Like someone already said they were covered in incendiary materials and were designed for use over Japan. The plan was quite ingenious and it worked on a test Japanese style town, but by the time it was ready to go, America got a nuke.

ingenuity is sometimes synonymous to stupidity. :p But to this, lol maybe that pentagon terrorist attack wasnt really a terrorist attack but a test by the american military to see if pentagon will withstand a missile attack.

If it would have blown up, they would have blamed terrorists, guaranteed.

There was once a time, oh maybe seven or eight years ago, perhaps, when I would have considered such a thought a trifle paranoid, but anymore, under present management, it just crosses my mind as a common, everyday possibility. I've heard of people or organizations flushing their credibility down the toilet, but I never knew they dug sewers this deep.

That having been said, I'm glad the bombs were disabled, and that no one was harmed. The question is whether this was human error on the pilot's part, or a malfunction or defect of the plane itself.

In before shenanigans or pics or it didn't happen.

I used to live in tulsa about 3 years ago, i know exactly where those apartments are. It said that the dummy bomb hit at 51st in lewis, i used to live at 56th in lewis. I shit you not.

That scared that crap outta me when i read the title.
