Does God love Satan?

The Great Machine
For the Believers: Does God love Satan?
Does he forgive him?
If Satan wanted his forgiveness, would God give it to him?

Yes. God loves everyone and regardless of past actions will give forgiveness.

But only if they ask for it?

If Satan had no free will as an angel, how did he rebel?

Does God's love extend past humans? I thought angels didn't have free will and weren't able to be forgiven for sins?

I would be touched if the story of the Bible ended with God forgiving Satan and being his BFF, rather than action figure Jesus killing everything.

Of course he does, i don't know about Satan but if he's going to reconcile with god, god will still accept him:LOS

Depends on who you ask. In Judaism Satan is kind of a helper of god who tempts the people.

I've heard about it. Basically, his job was to "test" people with nice things and "offers they couldn't refuse", or telling secrets to the people that shouldn't know them, and see if they will react wisely or be overcome with sinful feelings (anger, hate, lust, etc...).

Oh well....i guess not love....it is more compassion.

I don't think he loves him.

No...and he will crush him when the time is right.

It was very stupid to turn against God :facepalm

Let's look at this from the point of view of someone who believes in the entities "God" and "Satan" and their representations in the Bible.

When you think about it, if there was no Satan, God would lose all of his followers.

Satan wants just what God wants; more followers for his land. He's just smart enough to play on the nature of humans. All God has going for him is that people are too scared of going to Hell, so they revert to the other side. All God has to obtain followers is fear.

So, we better hope God loves Satan.
Or else God is an ungrateful dick.

God loves everybody and therefor loved Satan.
Remember, Satan is a former angel.
God loved Satan
But, only Satan doesn't love God.

As far as I know Islam holds that Satan would be forgiven this very day if he only asked for forgiveness and declared himself inferior to God and humanity.

However, the chances that Satan would do this are...small, since he is guilty of the seventh and most deadly sin: pride.

It really strikes me as odd how god could forgive Satan just like that, but wouldn't forgive the people who burn in hell for eternity...

I doubt it.

The Bible doesnt exactly seem to indicate that Satan will get a sudden change of heart. The prophecies of the Bible also pretty much indicate that he will remain evil and be destroyed eventually.

But for the sake of the arguement, what if he did repent? Well, in the ancient kingdom of Judah, there was an King called Manasseh. He did some pretty wicked stuff, like executing God's prophets and burning his own children as sacrifice to his Gods. When he was captured by enemy forces and abducted, he repented and God forgave him, despite his grave sins.

One would think that this would mean that God would forgive anything as long as one is sincerly regretting his/her sins. However, in the New Testament a new principle is introduced that says that "Sinning against the Holy Spirit" is considered unforgivable. I think this include when you are sinning out of malice, knowing about its grave nature rather than doing it out of ignorance.

If we view Satan's case, he certainly knew what he was doing and yet pushed ahead gleefully. That makes me doubt there is a way out for him.

As far as I understood the Quran text, anyone who asks for forgiveness on Judgement Day will recieve it. However, God knows all and sees all, so only genuine regret will save you from the flames.

If you've been an atheist for your whole life and then suddenly become deeply religious at the sight of God, your newfound faith probably stems from fear of the big man rather than any real dedication. Therefore it doesn't count.

While it doesn't say straight out in the Quran, I have a personal theory that you can gain release from Hell is you show real regret. However most people will never do that, since their cries for mercy is just in the interest of saving themselves...

In the Old Testament, God's love was conditional and only for his Chosen People. In the New Testament, God supposedly loves everyone if you a.) ask for forgiveness and b.) love Him.

Satan was God's Morning Star. He was an Angel and Angels, unlike humans, were supposed to have no free will. They also were supposed to be unable to ask for forgiveness. Jesus Christ didn't die for angel's sins, he died for human sins. Meaning angels, and all of the angels that fell down with Lucifer, are not forgiven in God's eyes, right? So he only loves his human creations (on certain conditions) but not his Angel ones.

So I believe the answer is no, God does not love Satan, but if he were a real man in my eyes he would and definitely should love and forgive him, whether Satan wants that love and forgiveness or not.

I of course, am a non-believer, but before science and reason turned me away from religion this was one of the questions that always bothered me as a child and made me doubt.

But most religious people aren't any better than the atheists. Why would they get a blank check for sinning and being forgiven while atheists who do the same burn in hell eternally? Most religious people who I know, don't really regret it when they sin. They still ask for forgiveness. Does that count?

Compassion is a type of Love- in Judeo-Christianity arguably the highest kind of Love- , so that does'nt make any sense.

Satan =/= Lucifer.

jesus didnt die for angels so no God wont forgive Satan for his sins. Satan will have to atone for them himself

Asking for forgiveness without really being sorry doesn't count. Jesus' whole philosophy was that God can see into your soul, and therefore the condition of your soul is of greater importance than any physical action.

According to Jesus the jews of his time had forgotten the meaning behind their rituals; mechanicly making sacrifices and chanting memorized prayers as if God was some machine that you perform regular mantainance on and then leave alone. In Jesus' opinion the rituals prescribed in the Hebrew Bible are not there for their own sake, but to cultivate the soul of the one performing them.

In Islam the greatest sin is to not be a Muslim and for the greatest sin you need the greatest punnishment.

As for Satan, it would be stupid to say that he does not believe in one God.

But I guess to some extend he must think of himself as a deity, if lesser than God. I mean, when even human corporate bosses can feel like gods for having control of a few thousand lives, then wouldn't being the lord of sin somewhat give you delutions of grandure? :laugh
