Do you find all the advanced maths you learnt useful?

do you think that all the advanced maths that you had learn at school is still useful in the workplace? are they just a waste of time?

Not useful yet. And I doubt it ever will be, unless you need to know statistics and trig to be a medical transcriptionist.

Not at all, I always wanted to study law so I didn't bother with math at all. For example I never studied differential calculus or integrals.

hell no

the most math i do in my job is addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division :edu

all those wasted years! :arg

I love math (have BS degree) so i don't consider any of the math classes taken to be a waste of time, i may not use them in a job but having the knowledge/skill is rewarding in itself :zaru

Math doesn't reach the practical level (in high paying technology-based careers) until you reach about Calculus.

If you are not a scientist it`s not directly useful.

But it greatly develops your brain so in that sense it`s useful.

hell no i'm taking algebra in my freshman year at high school and i know i'm never gonna use it

Schools teach you those things in hopes and preparation that you take an occupation so gratifying and rewarding that you need such knowledge.

Preparation is never a waste of time.

And mother fucker, please, I invent advanced maths. I'll never understand peoples' inability to understand math. Its the exact same thing over and over again, building on the basic four functions. Other than that, its remembering values like pi, sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, cot, etc...

Seriously, once I get this shit copyrighted, I'll blow your mind with how easy math is.

Calculus is pretty useful in economic models, but I don't do them...so no.

The same can be said for topology and number theory unless you are really a mathematician.

Nope, I haven't had to use them since class and that's probably a good thing because I hate math.

I'm a music major... Counting is great, but all of that sin/cosine and stuff like that just has no real use for me. I'm glad only one semester of math was needed to graduate as a music major, and I'm already done with it! ^_^

The math itself isnt. However, the mindset and the intricate thinking and detail linking you gain from it makes a world of difference in my everyday life.

if math is going to be in any part of my life, i prefer to learn it when i'll really acually USE it. i hate it. i hate english. i hate science. i hate school in general. but really...what would this world be without all those people who dropped out of highschool who work in those fast food restaurants and gas stations and other places that normal people wouldn't ever work at. a believe in a good education, but why learn it if ur not gonna use it? it's like that commercial-use ur money when u need it. well, get ur education when u NEED it. not when yu don't need it. im most likely not going to remember any of the stupid stuff anyways. and i still have...5 years of school left. :cry

Im sure your thoughts will change when you get to college; I'm assuming your not there yet. You can make your own schedule, you often have more time to complete hw, and your professors arent so naggy.

no, i haven't got there yet. im still in 7th grade. and yet, we're allready learning a lot. my parents weren't even taught this stuff when they were in school, so they don't help any. and yes, i am looking forward to college, because i realize all these things to be true, and the best thing-if u go to the right one, u can live on campus. YAY! which means no parents nagging. no curfew. no nothing. WOO! :laugh

I was so happy after school, that I will never need it again, but last year I started Business Administration as a minor field of study and now I need it all the time. I'm happy that I remember at least a little bit, but my maths skills were never that outstanding :arg

i like math it easy my math teacfher once broke down some math an di could have done it in frist grade

Simple answer: no

I had to take 3 math courses in college but any of that stuff I will most likely not use. But I don't discount the importance of it or the need for logical knowledge.

Like for example: matrices. We learned them. Learned the methods. But never learned what the fuk it's for. Just had to treat it as a local game of moving numbers around. However if I ever do need to use it, I have some of the background math skills to open up the "matrices" chapter in Math for Dummies and re-learn it in a few minutes.

Unfortunately no,

All those math classes I took in college were for naught. I don't really need calc for the Sheriff's Department. So much money wasted....
