Better type of final?

This is kinda relevant to video games, but I'd like it to be open to relating the idea to other areas.
Some games have you face a difficult final boss with almost entirely your skill, and you retry over and over until you defeat it. Others, you can gain a great advantage by spending time to level up and acquiring items before hand.
Witch format is preferable? What method do you feel is better suited to academic finals?

I'd rather retry over and over again.
I hate levelling up. Like, purposely wandering around in a field and fight a crapload of monsters just for the sake of levelling up.

So troublesome. >:

Oh, and let's say with the leveling up method you only get one shot at the final boss.

No, and you can't load a game save, but you can use other natural shortcuts and tricks.

No leveling. I pick the other option.

Nothing annoys me faster in games then to spend hours fighting random monsters just to level up. It becomes a chore.

Leveling up. I use to attach clips to several buttons of the controller, and then left my PS there while I went to do my work.:amuse

For a test, I would take the studying option. I hate taking them even once, let alone countless times in order to get it right.

I don't purposefully level up but i do level up some, just for the sake of unlocking new skills and spells or to be able to equip that new cool item i just got.

That seems to suffice for beating final bosses without me needing to retry although i do go all out on them ,i think it's more fun to struggle and just barely do it than just go and use one special to win , cause final bosses are MEANT to be hard and epic like that.

It doesn't mean that i rush through it without leveling at all though and in games that have bosses that you unlock after you beat the final boss i do level up to the max and unlock every uber thing in order to beat em.

Retrying is more relevant IMO. Leveling up destroyes the fun. But as long as you finishes the game, who cares. :\

For games, I prefer to explore my dungeon, gather items and such, and adapting to the requirements before the boss. That way I am well prepared, and should be of sufficent level to tackle the boss.

For a test, I don't study. I only pray.

The ladder. Not to say that the former doesn't sound interesting, it's just that the ladder seems more manageable.
