Why is it that people feel the need for small talk. Why is it so important for someone to act like they care about mundane details? "How's the weather?" Do you really care or do you just lack anything else interesting to talk about? It's just annoying.

Especially in a call center environment. People call you to fix their computer and while you're doing this they feel the need to distract you from what you doing by acting like they care about the weather where you're at. Or ask you if you saw the football game the other night. "Do you want me to focus on fixing your problem? Or do you like being on the phone doing nothing, with a broken computer?!" Quit pretending like you care about the weather, or my opinion in politics. You don't really care, you just can't stand the silence with a phone stuck to your ear.
