Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition

Only the player's handbook?

They must be keeping the same basic system so it's backwards compatitable with the 3.5 stuff then, otherwise we'd have the DM's Manual and Monster Manual too.

I think with the way the D&D community has changed since version three was released (What witht eh zillions of books and the internet community) WOTC know the'd get a big rasberry and a middle finger to a totally new money spinning edition.

Here's hoping they fix Monks and Casters.

No no no. Player's Handbook comes out in May, DMG comes out in June, and the MM comes out in July. That's the way they released 3rd when it came out. In April they're actually releasing a DnD starter set for 4th edition to give people a preview and to slowly break them into it. The first campaign setting being released for 4th is Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk is no longer the default world. And they're making 4th edition digital as well from the ground up. You don't have to use the online or computer applications in your game, but they give you the option to. It's really fucking cool looking.

I wouldn't say that 3rd edition was all about money. If you played in second you'd know about the vast amount of source materials out there. It was depressing. They had a book for each class, a book for each race, and then several campaign specific books.

They've not said anything about monks yet, but apparently they are revamping casters. They said something to the effect that wizards are not going to run out of spells during combat. Like you'll have combat spells and non-combat spells, and your combat spells will be replenished at the beginning of each new combat. At least, that's what I gather.

Well I was more hoping they'd tone down their power. From level ten upwards casters outstrip all the other classes by a good margin.

And wasn't Forgotten Realms already Default? I've seen tons of FG books and half a dozen Eberron ones but never a Grey hawk. All the fiction books seems to mostly be FG too though I must admit I hardly made a deep investigation.

I prefer White Wolf's New World of Darkness. Even if I have no oen to play with it still has much cooler story ideas :3

They're making fighters and the like follow what looks to be something akin to the classes in the Book of the Nine Swords, which I think we bring the balance back.

Greyhawk was the default world, though the Forgotten Realms, since it's development, has been the more widely used and developed world. Eberron is simply the newest of the campaign settings, having been created in a campaign design contest.

Like I've mentioned, with the onset of 4th edition all the normal gaming resources will also be available online. They have a computer program that you can use to game, which comes with dungeon generators, character generators, and all the DM tools. There won't be any problem finding games anymore since there will be literally thousands which will be solely online, yet will retain the feel of tabletop DnD.
