The internet is actually a pretty good simulation of real life.
You choose your character, and that character really does go through a life. One up: that character's life affects yours, and your life affects the character's.
But as much as some people try to make that character themselves, it just doesn't work that way.

The result is that the real world and the internet simply do not cross well. At least for me. My friends in real life are nearly impossible to talk to over the internet. It feels forced, contrived. That's why I haven't talked to my friend who moved to Utah in two years.
And, unfortunately, it doesn't work the other way either. I've had to learn that once, twice, three, four times. Five? I lost count, and some sit squarely in ye olde gray area. It certainly worries me, but in the end, all lessons are progress; and this should change my friendship with no one. Hopefully.
